Hi folks,

The idea is to say use bank statements in csv format import data ideally with date, amount, company name already mapped to software journal module and then simply enter the rest.

Why do you want to use a journal?

Lots of systems enable you to import bank statements using a CSV file.

One system I use to do just that is Accounts Portal - it works really well.

I also use Accounts Portal, and importing CSV bank statements is how I do my bookkeeping now.

You have control of how fields are mapped, or can ignore them if you want. Having imported the data you then 'process' each transaction which in effect posts the transaction to the appropriate nominal code.

I choose to use journal when I have to enter some backdated company data from scratch. I don’t bother with putting data via receivables and payable in such cases when payment terms are same day for example :) Its bank supplier, bank customer :)

Revenue recognised when received.

I have checked Accounts Portal its pretty good however not as good as one I tried recently - http://www.simplbooks.ee/en/ They are offering free demo.

What I liked

Reports are customisable. So you can set them up for IFRS, GAAP, etc.

Journal module is intuitive and easy to use and allows cost centre accounting.

There is also a warehouse module.

Reconciliation is instant and shown as unmatched, matched payables and receivables.

And http://www.simplbooks.ee/api-documentation/ :) API

Minus there seems to be no audit trail. Also it would be nice to be able to give someone access to receivables or payables only :) This way fraud is minimised.

If someone knows any similar services kindly post here :) I would like to buy a desktop version.

But how could entering a journal for each transaction ever be quicker than importing a large batch of transactions? You can post direct to expenses or accounts payable/receivable if you import data.
