I think Wix must have been reading some threads on here...

  • Thread starter Thread starter Scott@KarmaContent
  • Start date Start date
Which in itself shows that they know little or nothing about digital marketing. A single term out ranking would be a fun party trick, but not representative of a businesses ability to drive relevant traffic to a site.

And, of course, the reasons some people say mean things about WIX run much deeper than just the SEO issue.

If you look at the terms you'll find that entries can only be submitted between November 16, 2016, through 11:59:59 P.M. ET on December 16, 2016 (the “Entry Period”).

This really renders the entire challenge completely pointless, as it would simply not allow anyone enough time to ethically optimise for the term "SEO Hero".

This really sums up WIX and their clear lack of knowledge when it comes to SEO.

Scott, if you change the title of this thread to include that search term then this page may even outrank Wix just because Wix is so crap.

If all of us link to this thread, it'll almost certainly get to #1. I could probably do it on my own if I put my mind to it.

UKBF, can you tell us what you'd spend the $50K on?

That's just to enter. Results are in March.

It has to be a new domain registered on or after 16th November.

This could be pretty embarrassing for Wix. Looking forward to see the outcome.

So they're putting up a page that ranks #11 on a domain that's been around for yonks and someone has to reg a new domain and beat it within a month. Oh, perhaps they could make a rule that it has to be a non-english page, hosted offshore with less than 10 words of content.

It's 4 months and I believe they are creating a new site which was registered on the start day.
The one you saw is probably just the website they announced it on

You can find the main rules here - http://www.simsays.co.uk/rules/
Problem is, one of the rules make the contest a waste of time and impossible to judge.

*1 of the rules might not technically be in the official rules too ;-)

If they're using Google Search Console reported ranking for the term, then this a farce from a great height, as the odds of you ranking in the real world for what it reports you ranking, being the same, is akin to the odds of me winning Miss Universe pageant.

The rules say they will search for the term via Google Search.

They don't say which version of Google they will use or where they will be searching from though :-(

They could be searching from Tel Aviv, San Francisco, anywhere else and get completely different results.
