I am in the process of opening a retail cosmetics shop. at the moment I am creating plans, and I stuck at the estimating costs and profits, cause I can't find any wholesale supplier that would reveal me their wholesale prices until I send them photos of my shop and my website! Could anyone direct me into the right way of doing this, how can I plan and find suppliers if they all want to talk only if one is established business. I need suppliers first, before opening the shop, or should I open with empty shelves and then contact them o.O ? What am I missing here?

Thank you for replies!

Trade show is a good idea, I need to look into this.

@Billmccallum - thank you for the links, however I want some niche brands, I already picked a few, but it is so hard to find out the wholesale prices from them - is it really so confidental? I can't really understand their approach.

I thought that maybe there was other way of doing this, that maybe its my approach that is wrong, but before committing any further I would like to know the numbers!

Hi Fanta. I recently came across a useful online product, which has put together a directory of 8,000 (i think) wholesale suppliers covering many products. I'm pretty sure your area is covered, but I can check if you like. If you're interested let me know and I'll point you to the link.

why don't you tell us all about it, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to know?

Start with a website. Get the products you want to stock on the website, make it look professional and have all your contact details on there.

Then approach your potential suppliers and ask to open an account, not necessarily a credit account but an trading account, include your website details and this should show them you are serious about it and have a route to market.

Sure Bill. the site is called Salehoo. Here's my affiliate link to it: http://zrawi.salehoo.hop.clickbank.net

I have only recently (about 1 month ago) joined them and looked through some of the guides, which I found very insightful, especially for a newbie like me.

They also have a 30 or 60 day money back guarantee, which swayed me towards buying the membership for the year, which only cost me just over £30 (it was under special offer).

I hope it proves helpful. Let me know if it does.

All the best
