We offer our customers discount for payment by bank transfer, currently our customers have to ask for our bank details before they make a transfer. Is it safe and good practice to put our bank details on our website so that they can complete their purchase quickly?

That does not sound safe, no.

Why don't you use sagepay or another 3rd party payment gateway?

i cant see any harm in publishing after checkout your payee name, bank name & bank account number. only these three items are needed to pay direct to a bank.

You currently use esecurepayments, are you able to add bank transfer as a payment option in the settings with this system, failing that most systems allow for invoicing / chq option, not sure though if this would be a workaround for the gateway charges.

Also, are you thinking of existing / repeat customers or new customers.

Either way as already said, after registration / password protected and not directly spiderable by the search engines.

Be interested to see how this works for you

We have an option to pay by bank transfer in our shopping cart, I will check to see if there is a way of adding the bank details there.

Are you still in that lovely village with awful people 6 miles from Sleaford? Lol

Why??? What do you think anyone will do with them??

Its perfectly safe to have them on there, you only need Sort code and account number which on their own cannot be used for any bad/wrong doings.

It does beg the question as to why you offer this to retail customers, if it was B2B then it makes sense and the details are normally on the invoice. Something like a credit/debit card payment facility would be more usual.

We are solely B2B, we offer this facility as it is cheaper than having to pay charges for accepting credit/debit cards, plus we don't have to wait up to 5 days for the money to get to our bank account

As its B2B do you not always send an invoice, because this is where I would expect to find the details, along with my 30 day credit terms :)

We need to avoid any break in the buyers experience of our website, waiting for us to email bank details or sending an invoice causes a hold up in the process.

Electronic confirmation email sent once an order is placed could contain the details and is instant.

Or post them on the site, as I said its perfectly safe as you can do nothing with them.

Or bit the bullet and swallow the 1-2% CC charge and accept credit and debit cards for seamless payments.

We have the bank details listed but its only accessible when they checkout using bank transfer as the option. It then takes the customer to a page with the minimum amount of information required to pay into our account.

I just restrict it the UK buyers only.

I believe you can set up a direct debit with them.... I remember jeremy clarkson printing in large numbers his account number and sort number in his newspaper article, someone found out his home address and withdrew some money.

You need address, account holder details and signature to even make a start of getting anything and simply withdrawing money is well out the question with sort code and acc number!
