Problems with my boss...

Yes, I agree, its funny how your mum's words come back to haunt you isn't it?

If we move it to modern day, my daughter earns £470 a month (net) as she works part time, as she is studying for a degree in her spare time through the local University, which she pays £50 a month for.

She runs a car, so she has insurance, petrol tax, maintenance etc, she goes out a couple of times month clubbing, she pays £230 a month board, she has just come back from 2 weeks in Egypt and wil be spending a week in scotland with her brother later this month, AND she eats out once a week with other friends, she smokes, ( I think she spends around £30 a week on cigarettes - her choice) has an iphone which costs her around £35 a month, she pays into her ISA very month and she is frankly rarely home between going to/out with friends, cinema (she also has a monthly cinema membership as she loves films) or working on her coursework- and SHE manages - sometimes its a bit tight, but she budgets well - she has to! I know she went overdrawn at Christmas :( but it was cleared by January Pay Day!

Not possible unless she works secretly part time.?;)

However, she gets herself to work (no boss to pick her up) she makes her lunch the night before to take with her, she doesn't get 'extra' for weekend work, it is paid at standard rate, but she does as much as she can to earn the extra money - she also stays late occaisionally if she needs to finish something - and she doesn't expect paying, or even thank about that for the hour couple of hours it takes her to finish a job, and have the satisfaction of knowing its finished!

If this OP is for real, he really wants to GET real - if not then he has allowed us all to rant and get our feeling off our chests hasn't he, and shown us what other out there are not exactly in the real world, AND at times given us all a great laugh at his expense! Great therapy!

I agree with Earl.

So we start with £470

We take away:

Car costs - £120 (£80 insurance, 40 fuel - very conservative estimate!!)
Rent - £230
Smokes - £30
iPhone - £35
Cinema - £25 (cheapest monthly membership available)
Dinner - £60 (4 x £15 a month)

Which oddly equals exactly £470. And somehow she went to Egypt and goes out with friends as well? What does she eat???? Going out even 3 times a week (come on, she's at uni!!) is another few hundred a month. Stuff to buy for uni? I assume new clothes are occasionally required? And all the other 101 things that cost money unexpectedly all the time that no one ever budgets for.

I'm afraid you need to speak to her and check that nothing dodgy is going on here. I hope there is some sort of scam of course, otherwise you will have to inform her that she can't afford the education she is having whilst also going to Egypt and eating :|

Or simply admit that you contribute somehow/student loan etc and that there is no way she can have this education and life on £470 a month.

i just want to clarify some things because it is obvious that this forum is full of unsucessful business people that think that 70 quid a day is a big deal.

Look at my income and my expenses and tell me how am i supposed to buy a house with my girlfriend if i stay on this crap money without any overtime btw my boss laughed at me when i told him about double pay on sunday which just proves that he is a exploiter...

my income: around £1400 a month cos we get one day off or twice a month with NO PAY
my outgoings:
car insurance: £120 a month
mobile phone: £35 a month
going out: £100 a week or around £400-£450 a month lets say £425
petrol for the car: £80 a month
laptop on finance: £35 a month
eating out: £150 a month
food and other crap: £250 a month
going on weekend trips twice a month: £200 a month

this is £1295 and of course the rest always is spent on MOT, car parts or something else like birthday presents...

so basically i have no way of getting on the property ladder and have to continue living with my parents who get on my nerves every day

Absolutey agree.Hence why the youth of today are looking at an unclimbable mountain and feel disillusioned.

Society has taken advantage of there future for its own ends.

The greed of the older generations has robbed them of a quality future.

70 quid a day will not allow a quality of life unless susidised from another source.

Hands up all those that can buy a house and run a car (almost an essential with the advent of out of town shopping and poor transport links e.t.c.)

Not that you would get a mortgage on 70 quid a day that would buy you anything but a tent in a field.

Is it pick on Kate day today!

Perhaps her daughter gets regular overtime ?

As for the hooker comment, I think that's unecessary!

Yes, it was a bit harsh. But Earl's allowed to be socially unacceptable on account of extreme old age - and flatulance.

Anyway... Kate said 470 a month net - so it's 470 a month. Her whole point was that 470 a month is enough and that's just not possible for an iphone weilding globe trotter paying uni fees whilst running a car and renting a room

And I just realised I left the £50 uni fees out of my sums, so it's worse than I thought and her daughter must cease this unaffordable start to life immediatley ;)

Okay, noted, although I'm sure Earl's not as old as you claim !!

Hopefully Kate will see the humour in it, however as a mother............can I just point out there are other more socially acceptable part time occupations available to teenage girls!

I know! And I never went along with the hooker comment!!!!!

I can imagine it's hard to see the humour in *that* from the mother perspective... But had I said it I would be forced to point out that it was only as inaccurate as the maths involved in the preceeding post. IE good for a giggle, not to be taken seriously!

Form what I've read of Kate's posts so far I think she's made of sterner stuff than to get all bent out of shape about the ramblings of a senile old goat *grins at Earl*

We have to make allowances for the elderly on here :):):)

Besides, there will no doubt come a time when earl will present Kate with opportunity for a stinging one liner and he'll have to take it like a man :)

Movietub missed that her daughter smokes £30 per week not per month so thats another £90-£100 a month missing in the budget. this of course proves that Movietub probably spends too much time around fish and have developed the same amount of memory as a regular fish

Or just that I stopped concentrating on the maths almost straight away as they already proved the comment was nonsense! Even wonky maths, in fact no maths at all makes that much pretty obvious!

Regards the fish, I never have much to do with them these days. It's all celebrities, robotic penguins, divers and cars that I put in tanks ;) And all for £470 a month, and I live in a 9 bed town house in Chelsea and drive a range rover whilst smoking cigars. I afford all this by being sensible when I budget and I only shop at TESCOs.

Dude

Seriously, if you think two annonymous strangers meeting in a hotel room, stripping each other tenderly then massaging each others bodies with babyoil, then slipping into a batman costume and donning a catwoman outfit with pink wellies and making mad passionate love to each other for hours, then slipping into the bath together - scented candles and wine - making sensuous love as the shadows kiss our naked bodies in the warm water, before dashinig back to our respective abodes to get the dinner on before the clan comes home - if you think that is porn -

- YOUVE GOT ISSUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very easy to put a new car through the business. It's easier with an automatic though - just put a heavy weight on the accelerator, a paving slab will work as this can be wedged unlike a brick that just falls off, lob it in drive, release the handbrake and stand back.

Alternatively, if you employ a labourer sit them in the driver's seat and tie their foot down hard on the accelerator, this has the added advantage regarding safety issues as they can release the brake and put the vehicle in drive, also gives you the option to use a manual gear box as well.

Obviously this only works if you have a bricks and mortar business.

Hope this helps.
