Hey guys just thought i would share this information if you haven't seen it already.

Sell2Wales allows you to promote your company, contact registered public sector organisations, seek advice and much much more.

We use it and recently won a tender to carry out extensive roofing maintenance for Environment Agency Wales.

Check it out, who knows :)

I know. We signed up for it for a couple of years. The filtering of the opportunities was pathetic. I probably didn't expect much public sector work for an accountancy firm, but they kept emailing me with details of contracts such as surveying construction of a reservoir on Deeside and other totally irrelevant material

Total waste of time

Absolute waste of public money. If you could see how much of OUR money is wasted on this product you would spew!

Having worked in Local Government and seen first hand how the Welsh Assembly have dished out tax payers money on totally useless projects like this I totally agree.

The people involved with this scheme are more than likely to be out of touch with the reality of everyday business and what would help promote business. In my experience the staff I worked alongside with senior positions had never worked in the private sector and did things that ticked boxes on questionnaires set by Europe rather than things that actually worked promoting businesses.

And there it rests. The Welsh assembly has managed to apply for massive funding chunks normally by plaguarising the ideas of the private sector, only to squander the money by ensuring it ONLY hits targets (mostly by massaging figures).

E.g. you can call them up to ask for a telephone number, the WAG switchboard operator will direct you to this group or that group, who will then give you the telepoyhone number and take your buusiness details so they can count you as a 'business that benefited from our assistance'. Honestly guys it is little short of criminal what they do.

I saw this on a daily basis at local Government/Council level. The staff are peterified when people call with decent business ideas as they don't have a clue how to advise and move them forward so they usually would 'signpost' the enquirer on to another department/agency and as you say, tick a box on their weekly report as if they have helped a local business to progrss.

Maybe I can let people here into that site.
The vast majority of contracts awarded tend to always go to the same companies. And they tend to get those contracts because they have either walked for the particular WAG / QUANGO dept before - or they know how to go through the process.

It is woefully inept and confusing if you are used to straight talking and getting things done - you will get bogged in red tape, to the extent that you could spend a vast amount of time of bidding for something - only to find you were never going to get it in the first place.

The reason I know this - I know someone who runs a company and they get work for S2W all the time - because they have the connections. If you are a small company - dont bother.

I had Venture Wales here to help me and they are brilliant guys who really know their stuff and will help considerably to using this site to fulfill your potential.

I agree its a rubbish site however, I have had many OJECs mailed to me which I am at PQQ stage.

What many people cant grasp is how these supplier forms need to be filled out accuratly but dont expect buyers to be banging on your door if your selling something someone doesnt want. I've done my bit and now I'm at PQQ stage after expressions of interest.

I'm also registered with constructionline, trustmark, ISO etc etc.

The reason for the terrible filters is down to the inputting system failing, lots of people have no idea how to do this. I get OJECs for scotland!!

You can get info on all sellers and start hastling them on RFQs, ie jobs under tender/framework agreements (some under £20k while others under £50k) You can see who has won jobs/services too so no reason why you couldnt approach them as a sub contractor.

Also agree WAG is a waste of money employing staff at amazing salaries.

the filtering is down to the operator not the system.

Lots of people dont understand how it works and how you can use it for obtaining names and contacts.

If used correctly you can win work but winning off tenders is purely down to points and figures.

Venture Wales have helped me considerably on this.

Does anyone have any positive experiences from using tenders? We were thinking of using Achilles but's quite pricey.

Venture Wales are the guys to help FOC!!!

Achilles is for the construction and Utilies and extemely expensive. They wouldnt give me a list of buyers either. We are an approved contractor for several companies but the jobs are very small.

Not sure why a recruitment company would use these guys?

Its very h&s based too an area that a small company cant afford.

ISO, 9001, 1400 etc give you points.
