Hello,

I am planning to buy genuine photoshop software. Any version would do. Say, if version 7 is cheaper than version CS5 I don’t mind going for it.

Can you suggest me how much does it cost. I did have a look at Adobe website and ebay and I want to make sure I am not paying more!

Thanks!

If it's for your own personal use, I would go for Adobe Elements - costs 10x cheaper but does most of things you'll ever need (including levels for example).

Price wise, I think Elements cost around 70 quid or so.

Photoshop CS5 is £548+vat for the full version and is the current version.

Photoshop 7 is now 9 years old (2002) and misses a lot of the good features. You would have to source as second hand I guess and make sure it's compatible with the version of windows you are using.

Photoshop cs5 requires good hardware to make the most out of it, so if your system isnt up to scratch, you may want to get cs4 instead.

The usual rules is the higher the version number, the more expensive it is - you can usually save maybe up to 20% or so my Googling - however, go much more than that and you probably have a dodgy copy that at some point you will forget and try to update it and wreck the thing. If you have a person in the family who is in education, then you get VERY good discounts on production of their student IDs.

Yes, indeed up to 80%.

For example we can supply Photoshop Extended CS5 educational licence for £159+vat instead of the full price of £794+vat.

Qualification details are here:

http://www.adobe.com/uk/education/students/studentteacheredition/eligibility.html

You would need to enter the proof of ID upon installation of the software.

Although it doesn't directly answer your question, have you considered GIMP? Find it at www.gimp.org where it's downloadable and is totally free. I use Photoshop 7 and GIMP is broadly similar.

Free is as cheap as it gets.

Points:

Unless you really need a pro system, (which very few people do) Photoshop Elements or GIMP should be more than adequate. Or you can join the Adobe update roundabout, whose new product cycle has just being shortened to a year: CS 5.5 here I (don't) come.

You can run old versions of PS on a new OS. An old copy of PS 6 seems to run OK on Windows 7 for me.

You don't need a 64 bit system to enjoy some of the scrummy new features of PS-CS5. Content aware and the new refine edge tools, for instance, are great on a 32 bit system.

Paint.net might be an alternative to CS Illustrator, but not PS.

if you know any students you can get cheap Adobe stuff at software4students at about 1/5 of the price. T&C say you can't use it for commercial use though ;)

Elements does not support CYMK but there are ways round that :). Other than that apart from a few more advanced features there is not much in it. I use Elements 4.0 and its more than fine, is a bit of a problem converting RGB to CYMK for printers though.

I did try using shared serial keys. But whenever someone updated the version online the serial key stops working! I want to get a permanent solution now..

I used it for my home computer. I have not yet bought any Photoshop software for the office yet. According to my understanding, we MUST have an authentic version for Office use. OOps! My mention was unnecessary I believe.. :p

you must have a authentic version whereever you use it.

Certainly won't do you any favours with the people here who have paid for the latest version.

If your just a casual user then go for an older version on elements - theres a 30 day free trial availble of the site to see if it works for you.
