15 year old Business

Honestly, don't mention your age. It doesn't matter what your age is, you're just risking putting the people who think it matters off. I think the way to market yourself is to prove you pay the highest prices - get in touch with the comparison services, email people who review such services to ask them to mention your business on their blog. As an example, make sure you appear in search engines such as sellmymobile.com

Good luck!:)

I wouldn't mention my age as it doesn't matter. What matters is that you provide top service and give the best payouts available. Once you mention your age many will look down on you and think you can't give them the best service which would lose you business. There are many websites out there making a lot of money which are ran by those under the age of 16.

Why do young people feel the need to mention their age when they make threads about completely different subjects? You don't see other say 'Hello. I'm 42, and I'd like some advice about my Adwords campaign'.

It baffles me because almost every young person I've seen on this forum does it.

I think it is a carry on from when they send their pictures in to Cbeebies and say "I am Sarah, 9 from Kidderminster". :D

I think the mentioning the age thing is a lack of confidence. Being young myself, as a general consensus, We think that adults know a lot more and are experts in business. In a lot of cases, maybe. But in some I honestly think younger people have better and more ideas, it just having the desire to go through with it. The only way to be successful is to try.

Phone Trader, well done for setting up the business. Market it on forums in relation to your service, social networking as well offer promotional things via these links and then look for the repeat business.

Best of Luck!

Gets your thread more views.

If I have a choice between:
A, 'hi, i'm running a business at 42 years of age'
B, 'hi, i'm running a business at 15 years of age'

I would visit thread B most of the time. Reason being is that it obviously makes the thread seem more impressive.

I have no problem in people using their age to promote a thread for more views. Having said that, it may be because I'm 17! :D

But in some I honestly think younger people have better and more ideas, it just having the desire to go through with it.

I agree in most situations, but money plays a big part.

I have a ton of ideas every day - I write them all down in my notepad and hopefully will persue them in the years to come.

You might be asking: why in years to come? Because of capital! 'us' young people don't have a lot of money. Yes you can borrow from parents, relatives, friends etc. But for most projects £thousands are needed.

Having said that, you have to start somewhere and I know it can be done on limited funds.

Competely agree with everything you said though, and goodluck phone trader.

Are there any laws to say you have to be over 18 to run a business?
Over 16 for a limited company. Although until 2005, there was no age limit - in fact, as far as I remember, you didn't even have to be human, I think some people made their dog a company director!

unfortunatly not. I blame the "young enterprise scheme"
Scared of competition?

Nice design, btw OP, although from the comments in this thread it could do with a little fine-tuning. I'd recommend a facebook page, maybe with say a 10% bonus if people like your page. You could advertise on Facebook directing traffic to that. If it's not working for you, make some more ads, it's unbelievable how much change a single word can make! Keep expanding the demographic, while lowering CPCs.

Hi Oliver,

I totally agree with you. Find a way of raising it though, get a part time job do whatever you can because you clearly have the ideas.

Luckily, I work full time and have saved some money now which I will be putting into a business, with me I dont have the ideas! It's all about what you want and your goals. Don't let anything get in the way of achieving your goals!

Exactly the mindset I'm trying to adopt!

Personally, I started with ~£60, and eventually took a decent sized lump of cash out of my uni fund (may as well since Uni doesn't seem to be on the cards with the way the fees are heading at the moment, eh!)

'Don't let anything get in the way of achieving your goals!' - couldn't have put it better myself!

Praise lol.

They love all the fuss and attention. They think that because they're 15-17 they'll get loads of praise and 'wow! this guy runs a business and hes 15!', 'well done', 'congratulations', 'you'll defo do well because my my, you have so much ambition yet you're only 15' and 'blah, blah, blah'....lol

PS
Please don't be too harsh...I'm only 25! :)

;) :D

Bit of a biased sample though, tbh, since it's only the people who announce it you're basing it on :p

Good for you! Who needs Uni when you're going to be a millionaire? ;)

Seriously go for it, we only live once.

What made me look was the title - 15 year old business. I thought it was related to a business that was 15 years old then realised it was the kid!

I was about to congratulate the person thinking he had run a business for fifteen years and it was an anniversary. That is god going.

It is not always the case that because a 15 year old runs a business he is a bright spark and full of loads of ambition and deserves a load of photographic oppurtunities in the press and different leg ups for being young and enterprising, sometimes they are just born into a circumstance that allows them to put that ambition into practice.

There are many who by the age of 12 are full time carers for their parents and would not be able to even commit themselves to a paper round. The 15 year old "businessman" is no better than the carer. Sometimes, only sometimes it is down to luck and circumstance.

There was a youngster on here a few weeks ago, 19 been left a house valued at £300,000. He was a very lucky lad and this could easily set him up for life if he plays his cards right. He may well play them well and the best of luck to him, he has not sold it to buy a fancy car and impress the birds, or so I believe from his posts.

There are times when someone is older and make something of their life. The older one should not be sidelined. People I think are perhaps more likely to give a contract to a younger one as they are being charitable and think they are helping a young one off to a good start. The trouble with this is the young one, if he does do well may not be that charitable when it is his turn - who knows!!

Maybe, just maybe, they are not really 15 but just hoping for a bit more forthcoming info' by claiming to be young.

Either way, the website doesn't currently comply legally, most obviously the lack of physical contact details - which also just makes the whole business look dodgy at best.

would be a problem getting regulatory approval under the age of consent, however seen as any old smuck can call themselves a web designer .......
What should be changed isn't the age that someone can start a business, but the age of consent. You have criminal responsibility at the age of 12, why shouldn't you be able to sign contracts?

And what's your problem? What's your business, since you seem to never mention it, only badmouth other peoples?

simple forum search - buttons up that way

I own the regions premier approved alarm company, employ less than 5 people to keep things "simple" and am desperatly trying to find a way not to get hit with the high earner tax.

And no, I don`t need a cheap website.

Ok, searched "alarm" for posts by you, still can't find anything. Mind posting your business name?
