How many people here self-taught SEO?

you won't fully understand it until it is utilised on one of your own sites. .

I agree with this, wordpress is however inherently bad for SEO imo. I'm a great believer in the best way to learn is to code it by hand when it comes to both web design and SEO.

Why do you believe this?

I am fairly newish to internet business and marketing and thought a wordpress site would be the easiest and cheapest way for me to get online and start practising the techniques that i have learned.

I suppose I'm a traditionalist from way back days.

Wordpress is easy as you say, not necessarily the best. Quite often my clients give me CMS systems to work with that auto generate titles the same for every page....... Ahhhhhh!

For me, you can't beat the control of a 'real' hands on HTML or PHP system that gives complete control on a manual edit level

Wordpress comes with its own learning curve, like HTML and PHP. I'd say it's a shallower curve, though, and it enables people to put decent sites together more quickly. One good thing about learning The Way Of The Hand Coder is that you can then mess with your WP templates with less risk of breaking things.

I've been using the All In One SEO pack so long now that I can't remember what the default package does. I know that that package does give you a lot of control though.

Wordpress does actually let you do this very easily. As a CMS it's one of the most seo friendly out there and with a couple of plugins that increase functionality, it can be an excellent vessel from which to push rankings.

Proper html is toooo time consuming.

I will never have a website that is not wordpress ever again.

If you use seo all in one plugin, life is simple.
