I have today tried to get a basic logo designed using a website called logodesignguarantee.co.uk but after paying £59 online I am starting to get a worrying feeling that I may as well of just give the money away as I have found lots of very poor feedback on Google regarding the company which also has other website names such as 50 dollar logos and so on.

I would call the the firm tho ask questions but they do not have a phone number on their website which causes concern.

Has anyone had any experience of this company?

You get what you pay for.

And how could anyone even consider paying money to a 'business' with no contact details? :|

'Get what you pay for' not necessarily. Seems he has paid something and got nothing.

Completely agree about the contact details. Would you give a bloke in the street a hand full of notes to do some work, if you didn't know who he was? Of course you wouldn't. So why do people do exactly the same thing on websites?

I am a logo designer and will work for free for you in exchange for a testimonial. The reason being, aside from the fact I feel bad for you that you may have lost £59, is that my laptop broke with the only copies of my portfolio on it, the harddrive went and at the moment I am without a portfolio. Crazy I know. If I can be of any help though to you or anyone else let me know.

I agree with both of you.

I was not expecting the greatest logo in the world for £50 but I just needed something quick as I've been stacked up with work over the last few weeks so was hoping to take some pressure off by outsourcing this work.

Has anyone had any dealings with the firm in question.

I hopr you don't mind but I've had a quick look via the 'net for you - it's a personal hate of mine seeing people getting scammed.

I'm sure you've looked but I've noticed from Nominet that they aren't a UK company. The address given is a virtual office in Wisconsin. The site has been around for a while but was amended last month.

The testimonial names don't marry up to people on linkedin and via a Google search the pages that come up are mostly for '25 pound logo'. The logos themselves don't seem to be matching with the companies involved.

I don't want to say for certain as this was a quick and unscientific bit of research but it may pay to do some more digging and guard against losing out. If you paid by credit card for example then call your provider up. Possibly even then go onto Scamwarners to report them to the 'net community and perhaps even call their nominated office (I got their number from a Google search of the address given at nominet.org). If they insisted on payment other than credit card then, at worst, it may be too late.

Anyway sorry to scaremonger as I may well be wrong. If you have trouble with them then good luck in getting back at them. Worst case scenario, just chalk it to experience. We all have 'em...

There are plenty of design related forum you could have gone to that run 'competitions' through a thread.... Sorry you've lost your cash - and 10/10 to the Cybermart above for their offer. You're never going to get a better deal than that :)

I used a simular company called £50 logo or something many years ago and although its not a scam they sent me 3 logo ideas that I could have made with clipart and wordart!

Didn't even consider going back to them for `improvements`!

Looking back now, it was stupid and you do get what you pay for!

Thanks MPG that site looks a bit more trust worthy.

I must point out to everyone on here that I do not definitely know that the website which I have placed my order with is 100% a scam/poor service provider. I am just very suspicious due to the Google results for the firm and also the lack of phone number on the site.

Looking at it I expect you will get something, it doesn't look so dodgy it's just a pay up then disappear site, did you pay via Paypal too, I think you will be fine.

The 'you get what you pay for' crowd annoy me, going by their rule if you want a better logo than London 2012 you will have spend a six figure sum?????

Bp paid £4.6 million for their Logo so they are right

Oh hang on maybe not... Nike swoosh was $35

My thinking was more brains more choices.

MPG@ What if I dont like the designs submitted? I am still trying to find the info.

There are different ways to do it.

You can offer the money but dont pay if you dont use.
You can guarantee that you WILL pick a design(that way designers are more willing to spend time trying to get it right)

You can also tell them what changes to make. I think nailing down a concept is the hardest part.

My thinking behind it was the experience with my previous designer who after a couple of ideas started to ask me what i wanted. So i thought well lets get 100 brains on the go and see what we can come up with

Hi Matt,
I just looked at your logo's but the #'s didn't show well so don't know which you are liking atm but the one with the open envelope seems to be popular. Just wanted to say the 1st thing I thought of when I saw it was "oh, they only deliver letters" maybe it could be a box?

OP, hope you get something sorted soon.

Your first mistake was paying £59 for logo design. You know that 'decent' cars, on average cost between £10,000 and £20,000? That a typical plumber's call-out fee will probably cost you £150+ ish? That a typical scratchcard is a pound?

So, why didn't you carry out any research on design industry professional pricing standards?

Not trying to be confrontational - and I hope you see some useable results - but I'm incredulous that people continue to throw their money (away) at a market they know little or nothing about. :)

I'm going to have to apologies to Jimbo for the hijack of his thread.

But i have had the envelope changed to a box and whilst it looks ok on the screen I'm concerned that it may not convert well to t-shirts or stationary. I could do with a printer popping along and having a look.

Maybe a mod could start a new topic for me and mover posts not related to the OP.

Still don't agree with spec work
It's working for 'free'. The amount of times I've seen dishonest contestant holders say they don't like the work + don't pay... then a few weeks later - they have a logo very similar to the work from a cheapo designer who's seen the concept

It's a whole other subject though!!

Mpg, the ones in the style of #23 are indeed the better ones :)

I agree about the spec work which is why I have guaranteed to pick a winner. It cost me more to add a guarantee but these guys have given up there time to at least have a go. And if nothing comes of it at least i should have a better understanding of whats needed or what I need.

No worries Mpg I'm glad you've put your input in. I have actually used the website which you suggested and it's going very well so thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I,m needing to create about 2 logos a week so this site could end up saving me a lot of time and hassle.

With regards to the website I originally used, they have actually sent over 13 logos to choose from today and some of them are usable which comes as a shock so it seems the site in question is not a complete scam it just has no idea about customer service.

I have sent for a refund again from them today so that's 3 times so far but not had any reply.

Mpg, personally I prefer the envelope mate. I agree with the reason for change but the box doesn't look great. Also adds another colour to the design which will mean it will be more expensive to print.

So why on earth did you not sent you HDD to get recovered? Would have cost you £80 and then the logo would have made you half of that back...

If you want to do work for free then say so, but not having a portfolio because your laptop died is not really a valid reason for an IT guy is it?

Hmm I feel I have been harsh... So I'll have a little to say about the OP...

Other than actually reading before you buy, did you not even look at their portfolio, emailed them, asked questions. I know £59 aint the end of the world, but come on??? What person who is willing to spend money on a business doesn't realise the simple things to look for. Next time look out for the little things like;
-Feed back from other sites
-Contact details
-Business address, if its a house address then there is a chance that they won't have the team that you have stated in the website etc
-They feel right
-They offer secure payments

Also how did you pay? If it was paypal you know you are secured, if it was by card, then they might be a company to trust.

Or pull out by emailing them and ask for a full refund, if they say no, or don't reply within a 2 working days, you will inform your bank and ask for the transaction to be stopped.

Rant over...

The only thing I failed to notice was that they did not have a contact phone number and at the end of the day it was for a transaction value of £59. If I did full due diligence on everyone I dealt with at this level I would have no time left in the day to earn a living.

Please note:

They do have a registered office address.
They do offer payments through a secure payment facility.
They did have a website which "felt right".

You can not stop a transaction via your bank for a debit card payment which you have authorised.

Please also note that the firm in question has now sent me through a number of logo designs as stated in previous post.

The company has also finally replied to one of the emails which I sent confirming that they will offer a refund (although no time scales). As I said before I do not believe that the company in question is a scam, I think they are just very poor with regards to customer service.

I've now been ordering things and dealing with companies over the Internet for over 10 years without any problems at all so view this £59 a cheap lesson to remember to ensure that any site I deal with has full contact details.
