I have devised a special offer at the moment which consists of:

A boiler service (normally £55)
A Fire service or another appliance (normally £55+vat)
A Gas safety check normally (£45 +vat)
and a free corgi approved co detector normally (£25+ vat)

all for £90 + vat

Now you may be thinking that its too cheap, but the lad who works with me has a very capable apprecntice, so the 2 of them can service 2 appliances inthe same house in no time, in fact they can do 1 each at the same time, the safety check is just about complete as its the same checks that a service covers and the co alarm im getting for £11.50 by buying in bulk (30).

The job is all labour (apart from co alarm) and relatively hassle free, also its a customer that will more than likely use us for a service the following year, not to mention the replacement of cracked coal beds etc. the whole job with 2 people will take 1hr30 - 2hr maximum.

Now today i have had 3 boiler service enquiries and managed to upscale them to the above offer, what do you think appealed to them?

Do you think i could get away with £100+vat (£117.50), or am i getting greedy?

If you wanted a boiler service for 55+vat would you be willing to pay the extra for the above, any feedback greatfully received.

Also im sure all of us can add extras to existing jobs to make more money without causing a huge amount more work

I think you would get away with 100+VAT.

particularly if you place emphasis on the fact that the normal price of the individual items would be £180 plus VAT.. so its a huge discount you are offering:)

No harm in trying...

We do it all the time.. have to try and turn a 10 bob job into a pound job if possible.

You have nothing to lose:)

But would you prsonally be willing to pay nearly double if all you wanted in the first place was a boiler service.

I would... partic if I did not have the co detector etc.

( I would probably make you check all the appliances whilst you were here..for the same price :D:D

seems cheap up your way Dave, I followed a local van today and they were advertising boiler service £118 + vat.

Re. your original question, I'd add up what someone would have to pay with your cheapest competitor then knock £30 off the total (ie establish whats a worthwhile saving) to arrive at your price. So then the spiel is - the cheapest you can get ABC done is x£, we would normally charge x£ for each but seeing as we are in your house today, you can save x£

edit
couldnt you test this with a selection of punters over a period of time, starting at a high price then see how it pans out to arrive at optimum level?

Yeah probably the best way, i think i will runt the advert at £100 in a local trade book and see how many enquiries i get over a 3 month period, i would love 5 a week (for this year anyway) so if i can get that i will be happy dont really have time for anymore with installs and letting agents etc., otherwise i might have to go out and do some work, and we culdnt have that:p

Hi Dave

This seems very reasonably priced I would have thought that you could charge at least £109 if not even a little bit more and it should also be a fairly easy up sell if you can develop a rapport with the custy. I know that with some of them it's easier said than done but the nice ones are worth the effort.

My advice would probably be to keep it at £90, if people are only calling in for a service valued at £55 then thats quite a heap in price to take them to £100 ( about 60% mark up when you include the v.a.t)

It will probably still work at £100 though but you might get less rejections if your under a hundread ( How about £95? )

Id be inclined to keep it as 3 things ( Why 4? )

Could you offer the boiler, gas saftey check and the free co detector for £90 you'd be making same profit for less work, or if its more profitable add in the other service and remove the detector

Great idea though

Well like i said if you service a fire and boiler, then the safety check is almost done anyway, so its just a case of filling the form in, and the co detector is a targeted extra, obviously people who get there boiler serviced are interested in a co alarm, a lot of which probably havent thought about it, how about £97 ? keeps it under a £100 and still makes decent profit

I am a fan of packaging up services and your offer seems great. Packaging up services provides you with a strong message to use in advertising and provides a strong reason for customer referrals. Are any of your competitors offering a similar deal locally?
I would keep the end figure below the £100 mark personally but get permission for future follow ups on service and also use this great value offer to obtain customer testimonials, specific to offer, enabling you to publish in advertising and distribute to clients using your service for other means.
