hey he said he was a designer not an online marketing expert!

theres probably loads of SEO gurus who couldn't design to save their lives..

but yeah - business cards aren't famous for their online marketing potential :-)

Just get out their will!

get your name and web site out there. Visit local business that have or might be interested in having a web site and see what you can do for them...

if you need any help on the technical / ecommerce side of things, I am always looking for talented web designers to hook up with.

I can't design to save my life

Portfolio

Currently under construction...watch this space!

That will put most people off. The website has VERY little text.

As a 'website designer' you should really know a LOT more than you clearly do....

Hi Doyle - well, there's a point there... if you're going to be selling web services, it does help to have a good, innate concept of the web.

BUT... it does depend who you're selling to. Are you selling to non savvy businesses, or are you selling your design skills to agencies. We, for example, sell a lot to design agencies.

So - let's assume that you're good at visual design and markup, but not marketing. Who's interested in your services?

1. Small design agencies who can design but can't afford full time web designers/developers.
2. Small marketing firms who know how to market, but again, can't afford full time web guys.
3. Businesses who simply need an online presence, regardless of performance. May have their own marketing guys or outsource it, and you simply do what you know.
4. And what about going through the usual employment agencies as a web designer?

Of course, the approach varies according to where you're coming from. If you worked for a big web company and have decided to strike out alone, then you'll have different knowledge and likelihood of success than a guy who did a university course, graduated this summer and is now hoping to make it big with no real industry experience.

One real key thing is this: you look new, you have no portfolio, no address, and no phone number. Would you buy from yourself on that basis? Does this mean it's a part time thing at the moment? If you're a full service company, which you appear to want to be, will a client be able to get hold of you in a hurry when they have a major announcement to make? What if their website goes down?

You cant post a link but you could write the name of the website ? Like www dot thisismydomain dot co dot uk???

Could you prehaps do a google search and look up how you find about where you rank? Are you using google analytics?

How have you assigned the keywords on your website - not just in the meta tags.

I know that someone posted earlier saying that you were a website designer and not an SEO expert, but there are huge gaps in what you know and there are way to find out.

You can use the interenet right ? Take a look at busineslink website, spend a day learning about website marketing and then another day on website analytics and learn!! I dont think you can have much experience and you will be competing with people who have many many years website devlopment experience so you have a very large learning curve.

Best of luck, but it will take more than just posting some questions here. Start reading other threads and start learning!

i have been to the website and actually I quite like it. You do have loads to learn

"<meta name="description" content="Doug is cool">"

And you need to take this seriously if you are serious.

We are looking for junior website designers (we have a team of graphic designer, seo experts, a CMS which generate the HTML) and we are looking for people who can take a graphic design and CSS it up.

If you are interested then send me your CV, some examples and your hourly rate...

Exeter is cool for me since I spend a lot of my time in plymouth...

agree with zoe, about lots to learn but your site is very pleasing to the eye so you have talent, i even like your images, but where did you get them from ? if you have acquired them then please be aware that there are legal consequences for this and they are being enforced now by corbis and getty images.

Good luck anyway

Hi Will

Just ahda look at your site...and I like the style. I'm not a designer so I can't comment about any technical issues.

One thing I did notice was that on the contact page, you have a picture of a phone, but no phone numbers.

Please let me know if I can be any help with this - www.free08numbers.co.uk

Good luck, Jim

Who said or suggested Will needed a 0800 number. I felt he needed a contact number on his website. That is what my post says.

If he is working from home, a 0845 means he does not have to give out his home landline number - he could use a 08 number instead. Any type of 08 number, it doesn't have to be a freephone.

I can also provide local code numbers which would let him use a standard 01 or 02 number.

At the end of the day Ling, surely this is something for Will to decide - not you ! I merely pointed out that his site did not have a phone number.

He is not working at all. That's why he doesn't need a business phone number.

Read http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=89662

He's just wasting your time.

Why didn't you say that in your last post. I hadn't seen the thread you have linked to and took his website as genuine.

Instead of saying - 'the last thing Doyle needs is a 0800 number', why not explain why.

I was only trying to help someone who I thought was launching a new website and had missed out something important. I thought that was the idea behind this forum.
