Ebay alternative.

I was recently contacted by a member of a site called "Specialist Auctions." and the chap who was called Bob explained a bit about their site. I was a bit busy with customers at the time so I asked him to email me some info, which he did almost instantly.

I checked the site out and Bob had explained to me he could upload all my sale items from Ebay without any input from myself. I asked him to do this as there was no cost involved, no fees and no subscription charge.

I just want to say that I found not only the site but also his help very professional and would recommend this to anyone looking for an alternative to rip off Ebay.

The charges are made when you sell an item as opposed to when you list one and even the pictures are free.

I know sales will be slow here but it is an established auction site and as it is free and they can do the work for you, is there any harm in trying it out?

Just to say I have no interest what so ever in this company but I found them a breath of fresh air in this somewhat post-Ebay era and I wish them all the success in the world.

Sounds promising. Don't you think ebay would sue for grabbing the content to use for a third party comprtitor site? Must be in their API etc. terms somewhere. If it ever became an upcoming competitor to threaten ebay they would squash them like an elephant standing on an ant...

I have noidea, noidea. :)

That would be something for the sites owners to worry about.

I only had 45 listings on Ebay and they are all on this site now. A couple of small errors in translation but they will edit out quite easily.

I just think anything that is free is good, even if the sales are slow to start with, is it not good to have a back up if Ebay does crash? (Not that I forsee it happening.)

haha, ebay is more stable then ever its hits are decreasing rapidly!

I've just had a look at it, at first glance it doesn't look to easy to navigate (like eBay) and the overall look is a bit dated. Personally can't see it catching on much with avid eBayers like myself, but it is worth a look. www.specialistauctions.com

I tend to agree, not much stuff on there.

And it sounds like they are just phoning round ebay sellers offering to put their stuff on this site. Very much like what I was doing when I owned a property rental site a few years back. Could not get anyone to sign up so I ended up contacting owners through other well established sites and putting their details and pictures on the site myself.

I have seen so many of these sites come and go, and personally I think they have a LOT of work to do if they want to make it successful.

- domain name is too long
- specialist? looks like a general auction site
- looks dated
- logo is too complex and bitmap - should be simple vector - quality also poor
- homepage is crap*
- many more...

Take a page out of ebay's book, and many of the other bigger auction sites. They don't rely on people searching or navigating categories, they stick items on homepage to gain interest. With tempting messages such as "ipods listed from 1p No Reserve" even though you don't have a chance in hell of getting it at that price.

Maybe you need to email them your concerns, noidea.

It may be beneficial for them to have some unbiased input.

Lesson #1: Don't use a domain name that can be misspelt on a site aimed at Joe Public.


Still, their idea is sound - getting listings first to get customers without charging an upfront fee.

Well.... utube sued youtube for the confusion....

Most words can be misspelt or typed but I do like your point.

Yes the idea is sound from an end user point of view but not a business - where is the money coming from to market a brand? Too many of these websites none make it big.

Sold my first item there today.

Only a £2.99 pen but the fees are only 9p apparently.

Can't complain.
