Pixelotto

Because he's not using CAPTCHA for when you login, seems I could write a few bots to click all day long on his adverts to increase my chances of winning. Then, even CAPTCHA isn't going to completely stop that.

Of course, I'm far too nice to try anything like that.....

That's what I thought, it's open to abuse. Do you not thnk it smacks a little of greed though? The million dollar page was a fantastic idea, but this is the same principle, but with an exipry date. I can't see as it has any great value to advertisers either. If you want a link there for a whole year it's actually quite expensive to do and it's hardly qualified traffic.

I initially thought the same about scripts automatically clicking etc. I couldn't believe he wouldn't have thought of that. I then read the "How It Works" page. Apparently you are only allowed 10 clicks a day. It's not really worth writing a script for.

Time to sign-up all your friends, family, pets and future wives, who all happen to live at the same address then ;)

No one seems to have bought anything in a while. Not looking like a winner. Although I wouldn't call it a failure in that the website would have cost next to nothing to setup, and he's made $140k

Heh I just noticed his quote:

"This idea has longevity," he says. "I don't know anyone who doesn't want to win $1m dollars, so I can keep doing it again and again."

If he truely believes that then he's more naive then I thought.

I've got a couple of a square and have averaged about 30 clicks a day.

I've not added a conversion yet, to see if anyone actually buys anything or not or whether they are 'players'

Hi,
my issue with the Pixelotto is that not only is it unoriginal with respect to it's creator but it is unoriginal with respect to what others have done since the MDHP. Had Alex done a quick Google he would have seen that he is following what others are doing, this time he is the copy-cat and not the Alpha-Dog.

The most intersting 'original' Pixelotto type site I have seen is galaxy32.com there will be 3 winners, each get a Sub-Orbital flight (with Virgin Galactic I think?). Advertisers can offer their own prizes plus the site owners say they will be dropping in Spot Prizes (Holidays to iPods).

Hope you make it Alex... but this time round you definitely have stiff competition.

Yes, I was thinking about this the other day and went along to check out how he was doing...

It does seem that the orders for his never ending pixel selling machine has somewhat dried up!

The original idea made internet history and created the biggest buzz and the media attention was huge, seems mayeb people are no longer into the idea...

"That's why it's sad to see all those pixel-copycat sites sending out badly-written press releases thinking that just sending out a press release will create interest. It won't! Forget copying my idea, no other individual will become rich from a Million Dollar Homepage copycat site. Do something different! And I do not mean a pixel-site-with-a-twist! Do something TOTALLY different! If you do something unique, totally unique, then you will stand out"

the above is a direct quote from the million dollar homepage blog entry a while back - funny that he's slammed his own idea before he had thought of it!!!

I think that the new idea certainly has longevity. However, what is more interesting for me than the technical aspect of his sites are his PR skills. I don't think I have ever seen a new business idea from somebody so young covered in the press with quite so much intensity.

Needless to say like everybody else I was upset that I hadn't thought of the idea first! I wish him well.
