There was a thread recently about mods concealing the fact they've signed in. My problem is the complete opposite: having recently got the Tapatalk app, I find I appear to be signed in 24/7 - devices with the app installed on regularly updating.

I know it's probably more to do with the app then the forum per se, but is there any way to control this, or otherwise avoid giving the impression I'm online when I'm not? I don't want to appear rude, ignoring PMs or threads I'm subscribed to when it's only a phone/tablet online, and not me.

(There is one small benefit to this: as I'm recorded as active, I get emailed the latest replies to a thread before the mods exercise their discretion, so I see the uncut version of posts - and some of those have been interesting of late... :p)

I'll check but this is all on the Tapatalk side of things which is outside of our control. At the very least, I'll try to ensure there's greater clarity about how it works :)

Adding to what James said - it might be worth checking to see if you stay logged in once you fully close the app in iOS as it does sit in the background (like most) when you go back to the home screen. I'll have a go and see what I come up with as well.

Update - looks like once you fully quit out of the app, it takes 30 minutes for your session cookie to expire. This also happens in standard browsers if you close the window / tab without logging out. A way around it is to manually log out, which should result in the change being reflected straight away.

Hope that helps :) The current setup is built into the system by default to allow users to come back quickly if they accidentally navigate away from the site or close the tab and want to get back on within half an hour. Because of the way it logs you in, it carries over to the Tapatalk app.

if it is on a phone then I would imagine once logged in, as the phone is always online, the connection would stay? manually logging out would work i should imagine.

Thanks both.

As I’ve only used the app a couple of times, but been having this problem for a while, it appears the app runs automatically on start-up – it doesn’t appear to time me out after 30 minutes.

Unless I’m missing something, there wasn’t an option to log out of an account. I deleted my account on the app instead, and that appears to be working – once I realised, as well as on a phone, it was also running on a tablet that sits idle for days, but still manages to run programs in the background!

I guess it’s just a Tapatalk issue, but having seen so many positive comments about it, either I’m ignorant to the settings & it should log me out after 30 minutes, or other users don’t mind it keeping them actively visiting a forum 24/7.

Have you tried closing the app when you arent using it so it isnt running in the background?

Thanks SW. I never knew the app was running - it appears to start when the phone/tablet is turned on, and they're both on pretty much permanently. To have to locate background apps you don't want running every time would be a pain, so I just ignore them. The only thing I found that worked was deleting my user details, but that means I have to type that out whenever I login.

I'm sure the app has got some good features as it's very popular, but for me was just an inconvenience.
