Recommend Me Someone To Do My SEO ?

Hola Amigo's!

I'm creating this thread to here from people who have had good results from either an agency or a freelancer who did their SEO.

It's becoming harder to verify website marketing claims and it would be nice to be recommended someone, no one I know has used SEO before as not many are in the online business so I'm hoping to be recommended someone on here.

I'm not aiming this thread at people who do SEO to reply advertising their services, I'm simply expecting responses from real customers on their experiences with the person who does their SEO.

Better still would be to mention the guy or company on the forum in order to benefit both the members and the guy selling his services.

Seems to be a shortage of good SEO's and most of the better ones seem to be to busy to take on extra work.

The more verifiable SEO's mentioned the better for all.IMHO

Hi all

We explored SEO solutions towards the end of last year via forums such as this and referrals from marketing departments at large blue chip companies. Due to our market being very competitive, we needed a better SEO for our url.

I spoke to many companies and opted for http://www.mayhemnewmedia.co.uk/ who are a firm based in Devon.

The gentleman who managed our account was called Andy and he really knows his SEO. His work to date for DeadlineData has been great and we are really seeing a good ROI to date and I am delighted with the time, effort and money spent to date.

Andy will offer his advice and expertise but most of all, he will listen to what you want and tailor his solutions to find the best possible online tool.

They do cater for a range of sectors and I am confident they could give you a good solution.

ask for what sites they have already worked on

what keywords they worked in for those sites

how those keywords were relevant for the site

how long it took for the site to go up the searches

can they give evidence of web views or search placements before they started work and where the websites are now in the search placements

ask for educational qualifications

you wouldnt trust an unqualified accountant without a legal qualification to do your taxes as anyone can actually call themselves an "accountant"

dont trust any seo company who doesnt have a minimum of a BA Hons/BSC in Computer Science or a computer related degree

My view (a few will disagree) is that they need to rank well themselves, and then see how well they have ranked some of their customers in the more competitive fields. If someone can rank a site in a highly competitive field then they won't probably have much trouble ranking you.

Marketing Bugle (dot co, dot uk) are well worth a look.

They concentrate on local business normally but I'm sure they can give advice.

Hi Antonia,

I am not going to "self-promote" the company that I work for, so instead I am going to share the following:

A good SEO company should have the following attributes:

1. They must tell you exactly how they are going to achieve what they promise.

2. Should not outsource any tasks.

3. Should have testimonials on their website with correct contact information so you could pick up the phone and call any one of their existing clients and ask them what the company is like.

4. Must not lock you down in 12 month contract.

I am confident that other members would recommend some really good companies, however should you fail to find one then PM me.

I wouldn't agree with you. . .

I don't think having a paper qualificaiton proves you're good at anything. Proof is in the pubbing. I'm self taught on computers and have been able to accomplish more than many people that have better qualifications than me.

For my SEO, I used a guy in Sidney after coming close to using some of the UK's big guns. . . . I'm very happy and on the first page for a few key phrases. ..

that is rubbish

seo isnt like being a car mechanic

someone with an academic background in computers would be light years ahead of someone who doesnt have quals

and for proof just phone up the best seo companies who charge a fortune and ask them what qualifications their staff has and none will say, they are self taught

The OP is asking for recommendations. Recommended people will have happy clients and previous results, which will top a Degree in Computer Science in ALL cases.

To find the best just search a couple of keywords like SEO agency, or link building services and see which companies come up top - they'll be a good place to start coz they obviously practice what they preach

But most of the times in the high ranking seo phrases, practice what they preach would be buying off topic links, spam and other high risk tactics... personal recommendations are far more likely to get you a good company than typing some random phrase into Google like "link building services"...

As its for recommendations, we started to use Rooftop Seo.com in November and have been happy with the results they've provided so far.

Before they started, the bulk of our traffic was through direct or referral site, but now Search Engine has taken over both and exceeding in excess of 50% of our results.

I don't understand SEO hence I got someone to do it for me, but would imagine if people are now finding me through a search engine, it has to be working?

If I'm completely honest, I went to them for price as we didn't have a big budget and they were the best priced by far.

I respect your comments but will say just this.

There have been many greats in this world – some leaders, others originally followers.
Many have come up with concepts and strategies that have never been used before – that is what has excelled them into greater heights.
From my experience, I am not an expert in this field. I will however say, in my current business, I am number one in the UK – officially. My background is a totally different field – even though I do have qualifications in that background.
It just so happens that I am good at what I do now and the opportunities arose.
One of the biggest SEO companies is run by a guy who originally had a finance background. When the recession started to kick in and banks were giving less mortgages, he began to do some SEO for his company and then friends and so on.
He has now won a number of awards and I know for a fact he never went to college for this as I know him personally.
His company have managed to get many clients onto page one and they continue to win awards.
I guess on this one we’ll just have a difference of opinion but ultimately I trust that the information here will be informative. A lot of my SEO I have done myself just through having an understanding and reading / researching.
I say the best way to move forward is with someone you have a good rapport with and someone that will be passionate about your business. For me that is a good start.

look for a company thats local and close to you and then you can "chew the fat". seo is a "cold" service and I am sure meeting people face to face and getting answers that way is better than dealing with a far flung US SEO company IMO

Actually, you will find it will transpire that when setting up the company domain for Time Assistant, and a number of different companies, I have done it. They pay me (invoiced, as you may expect) to manage their domains, and their SEO and on some occasions even web design. In return, they also advertise my services.

However, as an excuse, quite frankly you can take it or leave it, Time Assistant act under direction to suggest and recommend for SEO purposes for link building, hence they have joined in this forum.

I don't for one second believe you, but even if it was true you can't have a deal with them where they advertise your services, and they go about doing it without disclosing that a relationship exists. Their post was deliberately made in a deceiving way...

That's up to you if you believe it or not, in business you need to be naturally sceptical.

I would disagree that someone with a relationship with a supplier can't recommend them without disclosing it, it doesn't matter either way, if it did why would we bother with numerous networking events where you do just that, and all that was done was a recommendation per the post.

A recommendation was made as the OP requested, forum served a purpose!

You're not helping your case when you set up like some fly by night spammer... How about listing some of the following on your site:


  • A phone number
  • an address
  • a real name
  • a ltd company number
  • a vat number
  • anything resembling a real business
Until you do that you're just going to be seen as a joke and a kid in his bedroom playing at running a business... true or not that is the impression you are giving. Why would anyone send any personal info or want to deal with someone who is being so deliberately secretive?

How does a degree in computer science help you to write compelling page titles?

How about spelling and grammar ? That's quite important as well.

OP - you could try posting a free job on the People Per Hour website, I have been registered for just over a year and have had really good results and picked up several clients.

I have also posted jobs myself, and I have found that the first responses come through within the hour of posting live, there is no obligation to award the job so it might be an idea to see what skill set suits your industry and needs the best.

Good point. I checked out Mayhem's Page Rank, which is 1 and looked at their keyword density, surprising!
