It looks to me as though successful people follow people as well as being followed. The whole point of Twitter is interactivity and sharing of information. It's obvious from both Stephen Fry's and Richard Branson's Twitter (and Richard is now following me on Twitter, see my thread on the main forum here) that they are writing their own Twitter updates, although where a public figure has a PA then of course they will have help managing the inevitable deluge of direct messages and deciding who to follow back. My point is that at the beginning of 2009, there is nothing suspicious about the whole thing, although it will probably only be a matter of time before all the fake profiles start springing up as they did in MySpace.

I wonder how much he has paid SEO experts to get his blog in that position.
Probably nothing.
People just like the guy and want to know what he's posting. So, I suspect he gets a hell of a lot of genuine links.

With the volume of inbound links to his blog Google will have swallowed the link-bait and pushed him up the rankings. And why not? He's a super chap and a National Treasure to boot!
