I have just had Yoast plugin installed to my wordpress blog and I am struggling to configure it let alone use it!

I have tried some of the utube videos but they go so darn fast and their dashboard does not relate to mine.

Can anyone suggested any reading material or utube video to help please.

You don't need Yoast. It's a bloated great beast that fills your site with tons of stuff you don't need.

Try this: https://quick-plugins.com/free-things/no-fuss-seo/ It does your page titles and descriptions - which is pretty much all you need and SEO plugin to do.

Fisicx is right, Yoast is very technical and is like the swiss army knife of SEO for wordpress. If all you need to do is page titles and meta's, you might need something more simple. But on the other hand, Yoast does do a bunch of other cool things that not many other plugins can do...I guess it all depends on how much optimisation you are wanting to do

I have just spent the morning getting to grips with the configuration and think I have pretty much covered it all. However, according to the tutorials, each blog post should have all the SEO bits and pieces underneath and mine do not! All I have is three symbols. One is a traffic light, the other looks like a share button and the other doesnt seem to do much at all! It really is so frustrating and time consuming, since I honestly thought that I had cracked it!

If you don't want to use the simple SEO pluign try All In one SEO - it's far far better than Yoast.

If you click on those symbols it should show you the options. Don't listen to the haters, Yoast is a great plugin ;)

I really want to get to grips with this so I must need to do something else for it to work.
It is installed and configured correctly, but under my blog posts there is a box where it says Yoast SEO, the under that is three symbols. the first is a traffic light symbol, under that is 'advanced' and under that is 'social' symbol, so not the options to add your seo. I must need to do something else to get the proper boxes up!

    Agreed. Recent collaboration with onpage.org is a disaster and recent updates to Yoast have been terrible. (Don't take my word for it, check out feedback on the plugin feedback page).

    When I get a chance I aim to remove it from all my websites where it's installed.

    Things I like about yoast seo plugin;
    • Easy to update title tags and meta description.
    • Easy to add noindex tags to specific pages.
    • Easy to bulk add noindex tags to potential dupe content, author archives, tags, and other junk.
    • Automatically adds canonical links.
    • Ability to edit .htaccess and robots.txt on the fly.
    Things I don't like about yoast seo;
    • The new interface is horrible, they should have left it how it was.

    IMO, the positives far outweigh the negatives...
