wp rocket is a resource hog.

You shouldn’t need a plugin if your site is properly configured and you have decent hosting.

One of the problems with caching plugins is that people assume it's the solution to page-insight issues, when it isnt.

If, for example your getting content-layout-shift issues in your page-insights report, that is an issue you should be resolving in the code of your site (probably the css). All your doing by improving page-insights via caching is putting a plaster over the wound.

Where caching providers can help, is with images. Using cloudflare for example to serve the correct size image files, or to reformat your images to webp is a great way to imrove site-speed, but using caching instead of getting a devloper to help resolve issues, is big no no for me.

Nobody uses Wordpress out of the box.

But here it is anyway ....

That's basically just one static page where no links work. Anyone can make an HTML page that gets 100/100.

What about once you install WooCommerce and actually have some products?

You said Wordpress out of the box is slow. It isn't.

Wordpress / Woocommerce is absolutely capable of passing Core Web Vitals.

It's Wordpress out of the box. What's your point?
Nope, out the box means without plugins or custom code, but populated with content as it's obviously no use to anyone otherwise.

But struggle with Wordpress & Woocommerce? That's according to your quote from one of your developers.
Well you're the one who started questioning the ability of my developers, I didn't question your ability until then. However, like I've explained before, we've set up WooCommerce installed various caching extensions and it ran like a dog whatever we did. And not a greyhound.

Out of the box means out of the box. If I took the time to add my own content and nothing else, I would expect the same result. And yes, I'm talking about Wordpress out of the box. Not Woocommerce.

Anytime you want me to tell you how that's done, you just let me know.

That's a very kind offer, we had 3 vape shops running in parallel on OpenCart, Prestashop, and WooCommerce to compare the platforms.

We got rid of the WooCommerce one first as it was just so slow and the Prestashop one soon followed mostly because it didn't get any sales, but the platform itself was ok.

"A tool is only as good as the hands that wield it"

I have a woo-commerce store with 270+ products and 1000+ images scoring 99 on Google's page speed insights, I'm not allowed to share a link here but I am happy to do so in DM.

A lot of amateurs choose WOO (and WordPress in general) because it's "free" and with a theme, you can spin a new website up quite quickly, but unfortunately sometimes being an amateur means you have no idea how to configure a website, for example, optimising images, loading fonts locally, relying on plugins when simple CSS can work and plenty of other mistakes that cause a website to be slow and cumbersome to browse.

    Sorry for the slow reply
Yes that is with WP Rocket installed
Yes we use search console, thanks.
You should be getting better scores than that without using wp_rocket. Which suggests a configuration and optimisation issue.

Perhaps, but I'm a senior developer with about 20 years' experience and my in-house PHP developers are ridiculously good. So I don't think that's the issue here.

WP Rocket is often hyped up because affiliates receive commissions from it. I have found that LSCache is the fastest option. If you select a web host that utilises LiteSpeed Web Server, you can use LSCache for free, eliminating the need to pay for additional plugins like WP Rocket.

Yoast is the same. Vastly overrated and not very good.
