Well it's not bespoke, it's built around a website editor package thingy using one of their templates. There's loads of these sort of sites popping up all over the place so it's nothing new.

And read the small print, £250 + £40/month for a 6 page website, that's not cheap - 3 year costs: £1500!

I'm not sure what the market is for this sort of thing. I thought most peoople get a free site builder with their webhosting.

You have an image of a floppy disc on your site. Do people still use them? If you are trying to give an impression of new then I am not sure that a floppy disc will help you get that message across.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

how do companies like that keep going?

there are lots of freebie template sites if you want something quick and easy or you can pay a nice £40 for a decent one on limited edition or a few hundred (£) and be the last person to buy that style of template....atleast you own it!

thats a bit steep, wish i could charge my customers that for using templates!

A couple of things to be aware of.
Read their terms - Amongst all the lawyer speak it states that they own any domains they buy for you and all code/ images etc.

Unlike 99 Website Rental where, after the 24 months, you are free to walk away with ALL content, code, database, images etc PLUS any domains. In fact all domains are registered in your name in the first instance.
Altogether a much better deal even if I do say so myself!

If you look at their portfolio though, the sites, imo, don't look template based and, imo again, look very well designed. Also, surely for £250 the initial costs are great to get your business a proffesional web presence. Would that appeal to you?

Lol. Nice punt, PointandStare. But most of us offer the option to walk away immediately the bills are paid without having to wait up to two years later. Customer IP and content ownership is in the T&C from day one and domains are in their/their business' name.

Having said that, we're not into stack 'em high and flog 'em cheap either. :)

The £250 is not the issue but, it is the £40 a month afterwards that is rediculous.

Also, if they can design such nice sites - why is their own so naff? Surely a company you wanted to trust with your company presence would need to display something a little special themselves in order to gain your confidence.....

Nope, it doesn't look like something anyone I know would actually entertain.

Hi Comspec, do you think their website is that bad? What about their portfolio? Remember that most of us commenting on this tread are in the trade. From a non-technical customers point of view, dosnt this seem like an easy and cash-flow-friendly way of getting a website, especially in this climate?

Also I think thier main selling point is that its easy to update for the customer and that the site needs to be updated in order for the search engines to pick it up, thus saving editing fees. PM sent.

Another point is the way the code is done, it's bizarre nested div tags for sections upto 6 (i think) per section, why not just give each section an individual name and properly cose the site.

The sites look OK, but none i can find are highly rated on google, and none seem to have great SEO.

I think the site is sailing a bit close to the wind with the orange colours and the 'easy' name association, i bet within a few months this site has changed its name / image or doesnt exist anymore

Additionally I agree that the £40 per month is ridiculious and if you go for their 'Category Builder' site it goes up to £80 per month and if you dont own the website or graphics you have no choice but to stay with them !

There are plenty of companies, including my own, that offers similar start up business websites from a similar starting price point (£250 - £350) without any monthly cost (unless enhanced SEO functions are required) and you own everything.

Naw mate, their site is not 'that' bad, but there are a few things about the homepage, etc which turn me right off:

1) The big smiling tube who looks like he is smirking as he takes my dosh.
2) The 'easy' rip off, although subtle it is a little too much
3) The homepage looks like a 'get rich quick scheme' sort of site
4) The ongoing price of £40 pm is just way too much

I agree the portfolio looks ok, but everything looks templated and that is not made as clear as maybe it should be.

I am assuming you are looking at these guys for a site? If so, I'd ask for a set price with none of that ongoing fee stuff.

£40 quid a month is simply shocking.
Considering we have a website deal with a £49.99 set up and then only £3.99 per month.:)
