Hi there.
I'm currently working part time for a company, and irregular length weeks.
Ie. 1,2,3,4,5 days.
Also I will not be working a full year.
The problem I'm having is that I CANT find a calculator anywhere to help me so I've tried to do my own calculations, I'm just not sure they're correct.
Full time is 8.5 hours a day 5 days a week.
I do a full 8.5 hour day, it's just the amount of days a week that I work that is different.
I worked out that the max a full time worker works is 229 days a year (52 x 5) - (28 + 3) 28 is the number of holiday days and the extra 3 is because we HAVE to take 3 of those days at christmas.
So I work it out on a spreadsheet on a week to week basis.
(25/229)* (number of days each week)
Then add all of this up to give me a total.
I'm wanting to work it out on a week to week basis because I wont be here for the full year so obviously can only use holiday that I have accrued.
I do have one problem though, although a full time employee HAS to allow 3 discretionary days at xmas, I don't...because in theory as I was working..I didn't get paid.
But if I change my calculations to (28/229)*(number of days each week) this also seems unfair.
The fraction seems too high...hopefully this all makes sense and I've given people enough info to work on.
Think of it this way, a part time worker, working different hours each week in a shop somehow accrues holiday time.
So how do their bosses work it out?
