Why submitting articles is the best way to traffic your sites?

Articles are dramatically becoming a mainstream way of advertising for websites.

Business owners have discovered that submitting articles to an article directories has many benefits for their business. Writing a good and effective article and submitting it to an article directory offers much more than the typical advertising campaign. Who would resist submitting articles for free and same time promoting your products and expecting to be viewed by hundreds or even thousands of readers in the world!

I use article submission directories when I submit my articles.They are all great. But there is this directory that I came across recently which my fellow article writer always talk about, its http://www.submityourarticlesnow.com. Believe me its a wonderful article directory to submit your articles.

Trouble is the only people to visit and use article sites are article posters!

You may get the odd click through here or there but certainly not enough to launch products or services (not least because almost all article submission sites are US based).

Still they certainly have their uses. They are good for helping your search engine position (because the page that's linking to you is themed on the content of the article and therefore your site) - plus only needs to be one way linked.

I have found this helps immensly with MSN, small benefit in Google (after time) but not much benefit in Yahoo.

Nic - there are a few submission sites that will submit your article to thousands of others.....if I remember some I'll let you know

Not necessarily... I've had some articles picked up by some of the highest traffic websites/newsletters in the industry I was targetting - the editors of these sites seem to use the article banks fairly regularly for their newsletters, and when an article is picked up it has invariably brought me traffic/sign-ups.

It doesn't always work that way, but when it does it's very welcome!

I had someone submit an article to 250 article sites (some better than others) and in return I've have over 800 links back to my site.

Alot of people use the RSS feeds from the article sites to add content to their own website, so its a great way of getting links.

I think its been mentioned but I have doubts that this has any major impact on the ranking of your website in Google, but for MSN and Yahoo I've seen great results (No1. for travel blog on MSN for example)

p.s. one the articles submitted to travel rants was featured in the metro newspaper - so it definatly pays to submit your articles.

Guy, be it someone advertising or not I still think its important that people are made aware of the advantages of submitting articles.

But I agree if it is advertising then its a pretty slimy low way of doing it :lol:

I would agree, the only major benefit is link backs and making your site higher in msn and yahoo.

I submit articles on a regular basis - although I also publish them up on my site along with past issues of my newsletters - so feel free to browse.

I use an article submission site www.articlemarketer.com so I submit once and it goes out to hundreds of sites. Yes, there are hundreds if not thousands of other article writers also publishing but these sites are also used by web owners looking for content and some of my articles have found their way on to a variety of related sites which does bring additional traffic and sign-ups to my newsletters which I wouldn't have got otherwise.

If you're really lazy or don't know how to write an article - you can get a ghost writer to do it for you. Hey, there's another article topic!

Hi Clare,

Just a small warning - make sure the article is indexed first on your site (by the search engines) before you submit to article directories.

Sites have been known to trip a 'duplicate content filter' on Google by adding an article to their site that has already been submitted to other article sites. It could mean your site may be penalised for 'copying' someone elses (even though it's your own content).

You might already be aware already.....but just in case your not

You won't be penalised for a few articles - duplicate a full website then yes your setting yourself up for duplication.

All that will probably happen is that one of the articles won't be indexed properly in Google.

Thanks for this. I wasn't aware that it could penalise your own site. Is there a way to find out if my articles have been indexed on my site first? I've actually only just started adding the articles to my site so will need to change this process!

Hi Clare,

Due to the number of sites popping up that literally 'scrape' content from websites and add to their own - Google is clamping down on this by trying to determine who had the content first and penalising or downgrading copycats.

No-one exactly knows how far this stretches and how much copying you have to do to be penalised but people are being advised to add articles to their site first (and wait for the search engines to index that page) before submitting globaly to article sites.

Once you have added your article a way to check is to visit the search engines and type in the URL (website address) where the article is shown e.g. http://www.yoursite.co.uk/yourarticle.html

If the page appears within the search engines you are safe to add the artcle to article sites.

It may take a week/month or longer to appear (depending how often the search engines visit and re-index all your pages).

If it's just one or two articles you should be okay. But if you start adding 20 or 30 articles (which make up 90% of your site) Google may see this as excessive and penalise.

shouldn't you write articles and submit them WITHOUT putting them on your own site :?:

that way you will not ever face a duplicate content penalty..(only the publishers of the aforementioned article)

That is certainly more recommended.....

....but to get around this (if you would really like your articles on your site) have the article indexed on your site first before submitting.

That way the search engine sees the article sites as the duplicate content, rather than your own site.

Another way is simply to write the article again but reword.
