Why is Yahoo so much easier than Google?

I find it strange that it is easier to rank on Yahoo than Google.
Clearly both Y and G are using different algorithims, but surely you are competing against exactly the same sites on both search engines.

As an example, I've just launched an ecommerce site promoting a specific product, with the search term in the domain name. I actually only finished it last night, and submitted a sitemap, and it isn't even indexed in Google yet, but it is number 1 in Yahoo and has been for a few days.

I'm only get 10 hits a day from Yahoo, but I don't get why they would shove it to top spot immediately when it's competing against the same sites as appear in Google.

There's only one link showing up in Yahoo, so it clearly didn't take many to get it there. :D

The weird thing is, I'm talking about he .co.uk domain, which is where all my products and content are.

However, I've also got the .com domain, which I'm going to use to target the same products but worldwide. It has nothing on it yet other than an install of an open source shopping cart, but is on the first page of google, whereas the .co.uk isn't even indexed, despite having content etc. I need to get my content on the .com quick sharp.

Yahoo prefers link quantity, google prefers link quality.

simple enough :)

Correction, the .com is not on first page of google for the search term, it's on the first page of google for search term store (blue widget store), which is the full domain name, which obviously no one else was targetting. I was just getting over excited. Still , the .co.uk is top of Yahoo. Just need to get it indexed and ranking in G.

Yahoo!'s algorithm is much more dated in comparison to Google's, so tricks that used to work in Google that no longer do, typically still apply to Yahoo. In short, it's a search engine that is very easy to work. As Vince mentions too, they are very much quantity-based, whether that's links or keywords.
