Why backlinks

Well how do you think Google organises its index? There are over 200 factors Google uses in assessing the importance of a website or a web page.

But the most important algorithm that they use for ranking is that which they use for assessing the number and strength of backlinks to any given page or site.

Basically, the bigger and more important a website that links to you the better. Kinda think of these backlinks as a vote for the worthiness of your content (as I wrote, that's a basic explanation)

It all originates in the work of Albert-László Barabási and other network scientists

The concept of adding back links is to know how good the page is, the more back links a page has the better it is. And various ways of getting back links involves forum posting, blog commenting, article submission, buying backlinks, linking to various linkfarms, etc.

To be more specific the ways of building backlinks are classified in 2 ways:

a. Ethical way: Forum posting, blog commenting, article submission, directory submission etc.

b. Unethical ways: Unethical ways involve, purchasing backlinks, linking to linkfarms, linking to unethical sites, etc.
