Immigrants to which country? Those Britains who are lucky enough to migrate to the EU, I suppose?

    Those migrating to Britain.

As for Britons wanting to migrate to the EU, if you have skills, you'll still be able to do it - like they do to a lot of other countries. Trust me, I've seen a lot of immigrant Britons in many countries.

Listening to LBC radio all day on Sunday and every caller wanted 'something'. A greater focus on jobs for minority groups, help with heating, child care, schools, medication, education, hospital treatment, housing, better roads, infrastructure etc., etc., Not a single person had an ounce of consideration as to how these things would be paid for...

And those who take large dividends.

And those who make high value purchases (via VAT).

And those who run businesses employing people (via NI).

And those who inherit (via inheritance tax)

    Just a few there!
Unless of course they have found tax avoidance schemes which mean they don't pay tax on those things. How much inheritance tax dod the Duke of Westminster pay? Inherited nearly £10 billion, paid no inheritance tax. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/how-britains-richest-duke-saved-4-billion-inheritance-neil-da-costa

Only the rich can afford the specialist tax advice that allows them to avoid paying the tax that everyone else has to pay.

All of which are completely (and very easily) avoidable.

The UK is just one giant tax haven for the rich.
    • Put your money into forestry, farmland, or just convert it to gold coins issued by the Royal Mint and inheritance tax goes away.
    • VAT on what exactly? If your country estate is owned by a foreign company via a UK company, you don't even pay stamp duty, never mind VAT on purchases for the house and grounds!
    • Dividends on profit - I can't think of a tax more easily avoidable. We'll start with licensing fees for IP payable to an off-shore company. Or how about the good old Dutch sandwich?
    • So that just leaves the modest sum of NI and payroll taxes for direct employees. Lots of ways to avoid that!
Rich people come here from Scandanavia, Russia, the Middle East and America to buy large country estates for very good reasons - and it sure ain't the sunny climate or the breathtaking scenery!

That could be a symptom of something serious
Working on my own on a Sunday. Yes it was serious :p
Why would they? Even our Politicians have the same attitude.
So how do you change that mindset? I feel pretty sure that most people would pay more tax if it were to be directly spent on the things that matter to them most. Tapping into the 'I want' psyche.
I'd happily pay extra Road Tax if it meant less potholes, happily pay more tax if it was going to the health service.
‘The rich should pay more!’ they cry.

Trouble is, the rich already do pay more in a percentage-based tax system…
    But do they pay enough?

The middle class and rich will bear the brunt of tax increases, few poor have any real disposable income worth taking anymore.
Bearing the brunt is usually associated with something unpleasant. Perhaps we need to move away from the belief that writing off £10 once a year to support Red Nose Day has any real impact on the bigger picture?

Most of them? I suspect not.
I’m confident that you’re also in the top few percent of earners in the UK. Would you like to pay more tax, or do you consider that you’re already taxed pretty heavily on just about every transaction you make? I mean, if you or I tried to charge tax on tax (vat on fuel duty) we’d be locked up!
