Which parcel delivery service

We use DHL and City Link.

Prices vary between £3.50 and £6.00 depending upon the service required and the weight of the package, you will need to negotiate hard with them to get good rates.

DHL are cheap but so is some of thir service :(

I had a city link salesman round over a month ago and he promised to give me a quote for my business but he never did. I always feel that if they are bad in sticking to their promises in sales mode how much worse can they be when you are a customer.

I have just come off the phone from talking to TNT.

I have a problem in that I send only up to 3 or 4 parcels a week - from, er, zero......

City Link want to charge me £50 min per week at £5.50 per 5kg overnight bag - no chance I am signing up to meet that criteria.

UPS have no minimum spend but are £18 for 5kg overnight...

Someone else was £30 and another over £40. I turned them down.

TNT say that I can get £10 for next day overnight. I have to buy 20 labels up front, so £200. When I asked how long they were valid for they said "a year....and a bit". When pushed about what the "bit" was they said "OK, we say a year....but we will make it up to two years total if your business needs it".

I am looking hard at this. If I pay by credit card it doesn't look so bad if it lasts two years.....

#8 Try Fastway couriers they sell vouchers and I think they are cheaper than what TNT are trying to sell you

Onlinetrader, can you please be a bit more specific about dhl not being very good? What do they get wrong? Slow? lost parcels? damaged parcels? all these???

I ship about 500 parcels a month so I need a good efficient service.

Hi Richard.

OK - Their @ Home service is run independently of their main B2B service.

They utilise self employed (cheap as chips) drivers who may only have a car to deliver a few parcels in a given area.

If the consignee is not at home when they deliver they are supposed to leave a card, however this very rarely happens and therefore the client does not know that they have tried to deliver and will end up chasing you.

Quite often the first you will know about it is when the parcel comes back to you!

They are not pro active in advising that there has been a failed delivery it is up to you to track the parcels.

The idea is that they deliver at night when the client is going to be at home - this does not happen and they try to deliver during the day.

Hi Richard.

No they are much worse than RM, when we used to send out parcels by Special Delivery they would leave cards 99.9% of the time.

I always thought RM was cheaper. But then I guess it depends on what you are shipping and how you ship. We get a daily collection (at least pre-strike) and it costs about £2-£5 per parcel for 1st class recorded.

That's really interesting - we've found CityLink to be by far the worst. In fact, you may as well just bin 10% of your parcels - it will work out cheaper.

Now I in the states, so I don't know if this will help. We use Fedex and have a some really good success with them.

I work for a company called Crossflight who are an independantly owned courier company based in Heathrow, Bristol and Birmingham. We offer a next day delivery service from £7.50 plus VAT for 10Kg. We don't have a minimum usage policy that affects your prices and we don't operate a call centre ideaology.

We're not the cheapest but our customer service is one of the best in the industry. Let me know if anyone wants any extra info.

Also if anyone needs to send post abroad we have an alternative to the Royal Mail that is still up and running and will even save money!

I tried XDP for about two months, then they 'lost' a delivery by leaving it in a public place without getting a signature (I've been using RM for over two years without a loss). But I only got about 50% of the goods value back (what I bought it for). But they still charged me for the delivery. In order to recoup their 'refund', they turned a 1.5Kg parcel in to 30Kg! (They charge by weight). it wouldn't have been so bad, had they sorted it out quickly, but its been going on for months.

On the other hand one of my suppliers use them (a different branch), and hasn't encountered the same problems.

XDP is run on a franchise basis.

In short, check their claims policies.

You're lucky to have not experience any losses with RM, they also only will honour the value of what it cost to you and not what you charged the customer as well - and don't even get me started on trying to get a claim honoured by them, I've given up trying!!

XDP only give back a percentage of what it costs, and the percentage is based on weight of the item. I tried to work out exactly how they work out what they will pay back, but the way their claims department treat you, its as though its my fault they lost my delivery!

Fastway prices 25kilos £4.95 +vat most of UK

25 kilos areas not covered by there net work £7.95 +vat

25 kilos your local area £2.95

been using them 2 years with just a couple of blips

you have to buy prepaid book of tickets.

Interlink are our faves. The tariff works line this:

>1kg = Fixed price package rate
1kg > 5kg = Another fixed price package rate
5kg > 20kg Fixed consignment cost (can be multiple parcels/boxes for the same consignment price)
>20kg - per kg run on price added to first 20kg price

Rates negotiable on spend - but it is a VERY flexible tariff. You get maximum benefit if you send out consignments of varying weights and especially if one consignment may consist of multiple parcels

Interesting, we use Interlink when it really has to be there next day, but they are far more expensive than some of the other prices I've seen mentioned over the last couple of pages.

We allways use supaparcels at their co.uk website
One price £6.95 to mainland UK. Pay as you go up to 30 kg. No problems yet, touch wood.:)

Not sure how long they have been going. As far as I am aware I have never posted ony other forum, business, personal or whatever.
I was just bored for a few minutes and stumbled on it by chance from somewhere else. It is not the sort of thing I normally do.

We've been testing http://www.parcel2go.com/ and found them to be excellent, they use the DHL at home service but we have had no problems whatsoever, we previously tried Interparcel who also use the DHL at home service, but Interparcel were terrible, items weren't collected and they don't bother to check to see if items are collected and take the attitude that they are just a broker, whereas parcel2go send you confirmations every stage of the way and their customer service has been fab - you get 10% off deliveries if you use their logo on ebay listings as well - we're just in the process of seeing if they will do the same for us if we list them on our websites.

Other than that for UK deliveries under 1kg we are continuing to use DX's Secure DX service and are very happy with the service we have received so far.

I think it depends on where you are (i.e. the local drivers). We always use interparcel for large deliveries but only their standard service which is UPS and we have never had a problem with that service. When we have used the DHL service we have had nothing but problems. No collection, no delivery etc.

Thank god their carriers managed to get the goods to you without mishap.
I've noticed via their ebay website ( & personal experience)that should anything go wrong with their carriers they absolve themselves of all responsibility & its a real struggle to get even your courier charges back (let alone compensation).
I've just had a high value consignement go missing with them, I had to ask them!!!! after 7 days (on a guaranteed 2 day service) when i could expect delivery, only to be told that my goods had been disposed of without my permission!!!
They have refused to reimbuse me for the value of the consignment or courier charges, hiding behind obscure details on their terms & conditions (prohibited goods,improperly packaged, no invoice etc).
The goods were not prohibited,improperly packaged & i had a receipt for payment.
The company??? can find no details at company house, are currently under criminal investigation by berkshire police & i have to start civil procedings to try to get my money back.
PLEASE PLEASE do not use this company or any of their associates if you value your goods

I wouldnt use P2GO we tried there fulfilment services and they where shocking.

In the main we've found them to be okay, and thats been since Oct 06 when I made the post you quote. We've only experienced 2 issues so far, one was that DHL did not collect on the day they were supposed to and we had to rebook the collection and secondly the costs have now gone up for us as UK non mainland is now classed as their Highlands & Islands service so whereas it used to cost us the UK rate to supply to the Isle of Lewis - where ironically we sell a lot of our Isle of Lewis chess sets to (snow/eskimos/! lol) now it costs considerably more.

We still use them but we now use Parcelforce for the Highlands & Islands bit.

We've recently started using DHL, and it's going very, very well. Considering we ship from Ireland, and most of our customers are in the UK, we still manage a next day delivery in almost all cases, for approx. £9.95 (excl VAT).

With a midday collection every day from our premises (in the countryside), it's made our lives so much easier. No other courier company matched them in price, and the reliability has been first class - as long as we do all the paper work.

We used to use Ireland's postal service, but a number of months ago they outsourced much of their UK deliveries to UPS, and we started losing 1 in 4 packages.

We haven't misplaced a package since we started using DHL.

If anybody requires an online shipping service i must recommend Interlink Direct. I used their UK next day service to ship one of my parcels to London and found Interlink a very fast and reliable service with an excellent customer service.

The best thing was i received five pound off my first shipment for being a new customer, so the cost was next to nothing!

Multiparcels.co.uk offer a 1kg and 5kg delivery service using Interlink Express.
I have found this service very good for when sending large number of parcels.

It operates by you either dropping your parcels off at their sending centre in berkshire or they can send a courier to collect all your parcels from you.
The parcels are then sorted to where they need to go at the sending centre in berkshire and delivered to your customers Next Day by 3pm!

They even deal with all my tracking requests from my customers for me.

The rates start from £4.99 for 1kg and £5.99 for 5kg
They also offer a multiple parcel consignment (more than one parcel going to the same address). Contact them for a competitive rate!

Deffinetly give them a go!

You've got it spot on Steve, I think its entirely down to how good your local franchise is.

Same goes for the Royal Mail, the only place we've ever had problems was when sending high volumes of orders via the Wolverhampton sorting office. They've 'lost' entire sacks of parcels, I wouldn't trust their temporary weekend staff to open a can of beans.

Not a single item lost when operating from Cambridge and Shifnal respectively.
