Just in the process of buying an existing Deli.

It sells all the normal deli stuff and cooks some of the pasties/meats for baguettes and home cooked "ready meals" from scratch.

Do I need a retail or catering Level 2 (and possibly level 3) Food Safety and Food Hygiene Cert ?

Thanks

Agree with ethical - speak to your local environmental health officer, they are a great help and ours were a lot friendlier than I was expecting.

To give you an idea - I work alongside a dozen other staff members and 4 of us have level 2 qualification.

Our environmental health officer was more than happy with this and the procedures we have in place to ensure that we store, prepare and cook safely and as such we received a 5 for our Food Hygiene Rating.

Catering was new to me and I learnt a lot by doing my level 2 and (in the grand scheme of business things) obtaining a level 2 is so cheap that I would recommend that anyone wanting to work with food should go on a course.

Incidentally, now I'm in a position of influence I am going to push for all staff to be given level 2 training and for a couple of us to be given level 3.
