Where do I stand with my Sales Target when Signed off?

Hello :)

My first post here so I hope that this is the correct place to put this question

I work at a sales based job part time whilst studying for my degree

I handed in my Doctors sick note at the end of march (was signed off for 2 weeks), I had sent it to my manager and assistant manager prior to April starting.

Where do I stand with my sales target, as I have been targeted for a FULL month of sales as opposed to a reduced amount for my sickness.

They had the information of my sickness and my returning date Prior to the month starting so surely they should recalculate my targets?

I hope i can get some answers regarding this :)

If there is any other information you require, please let me know, thanks

James.

To be honest it all boils down to who you are working for.

Are you on a commission structure??

If you are and get a percentage of what ever you sell above your target then they will not recalculate as you they still need X amount before they start paying you any extra.

If you're not on a commission structure they probably do not care and will just take into account when you have your annual review.

Basically

If I hit my individual target, I get 50% of my commission, if the store hits, I get 100%.

So with my target being so high and only half the time to hit it (I'm not that far off it in all fairness) it's gunna be a struggle.

And if I miss it I get nothing.

In which case you probably get nothing. That's how commission based employment works.

I get a decent basic. And if I hit my target, then I get extra.

I think you're slightly missing the point in this post, I probably haven't explained it so well lol.

At my retail store, you get targeted based on the amount of days you work and the hours yiu work.

As I handed in a sick note prior to the new month starting, shouldn't they reduce my target for thst month? As my target was days was reduced.

A target is something that must be reached to get the benefit. If you are off sick, you either work harder on your return, or accept that you won't get there. Personally, the entire point of a target scheme is to gain extra business for the company. If you haven't made any sales you shouldn't benefit. If you have a job that has poor pay, but excellent tips, if you don't work, you lose.

This is called life!

It's daft to think that targets and commission would be paid if you didn't do any work. If you are ill, that is 100% down to you. Maybe a few firms might downgrade the target, but it's not much of a target then, is it?

Plenty of people also miss out on their bonuses and commission when they take their annual leave.

My point again Is that we are targeted depending on how many hours we work in the day, and how many days in the week we work. So full timers have double my target because they work double my hours.

If they do it by the days I work and I'm signed off for 2 weeks of it, then shouldn't they reduce it by 2 weeks?

If I have 2 weeks holiday they reduce my target to the days I work, they don't include the 2 weeks I'm off.

If you got paid for the two weeks then obviously your target won't be reduced as you were effectively "working". If you weren't paid those sick days then yes, going by what you've said, your target would lower.

You can't expect a full months basic with a half months commission target.

If you take two weeks of holiday do you want your target reduced by 50% also?

Also if your target is reduced by 50% surely your commission would be reduced by 50% or more???

Generally most companies have a discretionary clause in their bonus structure, which is where this would fall under.

Nice try though!

Talk to your employer, if you have a monthly target, then being off for two weeks whilst unfortunate doesn't mean the target has to change, if it is based on days worked then it should be adjusted.

Sales people get little sympathy, and employers wonder why they leave for better offers.
