What's the difference between a USB Lead / USB Cable?

On the basis every cable has two ends, USB to what? That's probably more of concern.

There's no official distinction between the word lead or cable AFAIK.

I would say a USB lead is a lead from a device to a USB connection
i.e.
device connection at one end male USB at the other.

A USB cable is the same as an extension cable
i.e.
male USB at one end female USB at the other.

Are they not the same?

The simple answer is; they are the same. But if you want to be complicated they can be different.

A "lead" is something that leads from one thing to another, a "cable" transmits something be it data or electricity for example from one place to another.

In the case of USB's a lead would be the 'wire' coming from a mouse that plugs into the pc, and a cable would be where there is a USB or alternative plug at either end.

But whichever, it's not worth putting too much thought into it as it gets complicated. Maybe if you explain why you need to know, or for what context you're asking we can give a more specific answer
