Hi
I'm exploring the possible structures of a befriending and mentoring service I would like to start up.
The purpose of the 'organisation' will be to recruit volunteers who provide emotional support and encouragement to socially isolated older people. We'll work with our older people to make a meaningful difference in their lives.
The organisation isn't to make money. So to help cover running costs, it will need to eligible for grant funding and charitable donations.
I'm still in the initial, fact-finding stages. And I've come across CICs as well as Charities. Both seem like they could be an option?
I guess the question is I'm looking for an answer to is, which do you think would be more appropriate; a CIC, CIO, Charity or something else?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I've plenty of experience in supporting vulnerable people, but a vague understanding of how CIC vs charitable organisations works.
