HI...again, will soon be part of the furniture around here.

Right I have another 3 questions

1: Why does a 's' make so much difference

If I write "widgets" into google I appear on the first page but if I write "widget" I give up looking at page 10

"Widget" & "Widgets" have got a good even-ish split, maybe a couple more "widgets" within the content, headings, title etc etc but it just seems a bit crazy to me

2: Apart from the obvious answer of "wait" then how do you go about taking down the competiton who have got the "Time on Google" on their side, the reason I ask I have been researching the competiton today(like you do) and all this talk of backlinks, header tags, content, etc etc seems to go against the grain n he no1 spot

The main results I have found are:

No H tags apart from 1 'H2' Tag which is as follows :) <h2>&nbsp;</h2>
12 Backlinks
12% ratio text to html code
Meta Description text= "....."
No Alt tags on Images
W3=24 errors

Basically all the stuff you read/learn that you shouldnt be doing, but there it is at the top of google no matter if you write "Widget" or "Widgets"
What magic secret formula has this competition got

12 backlinks does not sound that much but if they are all from a high value, established and relevant source, they can have more weight than hundreds of others... it's difficult to tell without actually knowing the terms and how competitive they are and the actual site/code...
