Website statistics - any suggestions

Hi,

I'm looking for a tool to enable me to get more complete website statistics.

I already get the basic site stats, referrals and robots info, but want to get more detailed in analysing click-thru, and where my customers actually go, to be able to make informed decisions on how & whether to re-engineer my website, or the features therein.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks for that. I do get quite a lot of stats from my host already. but much of it isn't particularly user friendly, and nothing shows me click-thrus.

Do you know if Google Analytics are any good?

I haven't personally used Analytics - although they did send me an invitation to join. Sorry I can't help further.

The best web stats is WebTrend but they are pricey. If you are on shared hosting I dont think you can change your web stat program, unless you have a dedicated server

I used http://www.statcounter.com on one of my old sites - if i remember rightly the free version only gives you info on the last 100 visitors but is does tell you every page they looked at.

Hi

You might be able to get your current hosting provider to download the stats in a 'raw' format, then plug them into a stat analyser of your choice. I'm sure smarter stats will allow this, and I guess most decent stats package would as well.

Webtrends will show you everything you could possible think of......however it was costing a previous employer of mine upwards of £30k per annum, with the support of a consultant.

As mentioned above, it's pricey but extensive........

Hi Abiz,

I use tracewatch (http://www.tracewatch.com/) on a couple of my sites...

It shows you the summary information, latest visitors (including where they came from) as well as a useful diagramming tool to show you the path people take through your website.

It's also written in PHP - and free to use.

I highly recommend Google Analytics.
Very indepth down to the town users are viewing the site lots of nice graphs and charts.
I requested an invite to them and got one the next day you can put up to five URLs on there too.
Good idea to would be to create a google friendly sitemap in .xml and submit it to google first so google can fully index and spider every page in every folder you want stats. on.

I've heard great things about Google Analytics too, sounds ideal, can't go wrong with Google at the moment, very clever software.
