Hi there,

As the title say, I am looking to have a website built for my business, an online accountancy practice. Ideally on Wix or similar, so that I can update and maintain it myself quite easily.

I need something simple, yet professional. Some four of five pages. It must be mobile and tablet friendly.

Thank you.

You should avoid Wix and go with something like WordPress if you want to maintain it yourself. It does have a bigger learning curve and you should familiarise yourself with the technical aspects of WP.. but in doing so you will have a far more robust solution than going with Wix, which is absolutely awful.

Another solution if you don't want to go down the self hosted route is SquareSpace.

Like he said, avoid wix.

Wordpress is ideal for your business and you will discover it's very easy to manage yourself. I and many others on this forum can build you site that brings in new clients. Looking professional is very subjective. What you think looks great your visitors may not.

Thirded on avoiding Wix.

your only reason was so you can edit and add, and a good wordpress site will do this. It will also be SEO friendly and easyier to add the local markup you need to rank locally for your area (which is what every accountancy firm I have worked with has wanted.

The key (As Fisicx stated) is to remember you are building for your potential clients and NOT for yourself, so be prepared to approach this with an open mind, and you should get a good result.

Did anyone mention that you should avoid Wix?

Wordpress does take a bit of getting used to. There's a lot to learn! (Though not everyone will agree with me on this)

However, if it is all set up by someone who knows what they're doing, and they give you a quick lesson or two on how to update the site, create new pages etc., that's a far superior solution to Wix.

But it doesn't have to be Wordpress. A static HTML site could be just as good, a lot more secure, and less hassle. And depending on what you changes you wish to be able to control in future, it shouldn't take too long to learn the ropes from the person who designs the site for you.

Wordpress can be a lot of grief! There are many disadvantages to using Wordpress ... so I would suggest avoiding it if you don't need the functionality of the numerous (and quite fantastic) plugins that are available for Wordpress.

Thank you for your replies and advice. I do have some basic experience as I used to design websites for fun more than a decade ago even did some basic PHP coding. The website will require very low maintenance, at the end of the day is not e-commerce, just a website that shows that I exist, what I do and how much I charge for my services.

I would like to receive some quotes, therefore, could an Administrator move this topic in the "Tenders" area please? Thank you.

Before you launch invest a bit of time to see what your local and online competitors are doing well or badly. Choice of platform isnt the key issue but as fisicx said above to build with your visitors (needs) in mind. Obviously your site needs to be mobile responsive and SEO friendly but with your background in PHP, a simple HTML5 site would be far quicker. If you'd like a quote - we do 5 page fully responsive sites for just £99, with a 48hr (working day) delivery and full 30 day money back guarantee. Just PM me if you want any help.
