Website design costs

Firstly, it has nothing to do with this topic. Secondly, I don't see the sense in posting it here.
Why can't you just give me your e-mail? )

Well actually it does have an awful lot to do with what is being discussed here especially in that the whole point of this discussion is to help the OP understand the costs of web design plus separate the "wheat from the chaff" when it comes to choosing a designer.

It's not like it's a secret as you have in your portfolio sites done by another company and I'm simply asking why?

So I'll ask again, what's the connection?

I will answer you only in e-mail) At home page of our site you will see the logo of gzm also. So if you need this info give me your email.

So I was right, they outsource their work to you? ;)
Or are they are your "us base" :p

Nigel, business is not just about price and quality, it's also about trust and empathy.

I'm struggling to think of a single good reason why you do not want to explain why you have another web design companies portfolio in yours...

Does ring alarm bells a little ...

)) I still don't see any reason for posting this info here. You are not my client... not a partner... if you don't trust me this is your choise. I proposed you to send me your e-mail but you have't.

What if OpenMind was considering using you?

Because the longer you avoid what is a genuine, simple question then the less trust people will have after reading your responses.

I'm not trying to catch you out at all, I'm just asking the same question a potential client might well do...

The fact that you're avoiding the question at all costs speaks volumes...

Why are you avoiding the question about your email? (joke :D) people won't trust you ;)

For some reason some car models have different names in different countries :)

There is about a billion ways to contact me through my sites, the telephone and via PM here.

You know what? I'm getting bored now and you've proved my point that working with an offshore company is often not the best way forward when it comes to a building a site simply because you have no real way of knowing exactly who you are dealing with

Surely it's better to work with you) Your contact info is PM in the board. Surely it is you whom to trust.
And of course when you're talkitng to the head of a legal company you can't know who you talk to))
So please stop these kids attak. Let's get back to the topic and show youself as a professional who can talk about himself instead of criticizing groundlessly other people.

You know what is giving rise to doubts - your critic of my "low" price of 250 for the simple design while the price for the licence of your product is 89 (shown at your site). I would say that this doesn't give credit... Also there are doubts about that garethgillman.co.uk comparing to what i posted here.
It is also surprising that an educated man considers Ukraine as Asia...

Besides, why should anyone here reply to your questions that don't have anything with the topic?

So I instistently suggest you to quit this uselless discussion.

I would say that £89 + the £60 for hosting (£149 per year) is a reasonable starting price for allowing those with small budgets to start an e-commerce website. Don't forget this is only offering a website setup based on a product that is pre-made and not a bespoke service. The sale of £149 that takes minutes to set up (not considering R&D costs) is much more realistic than the £125 of bespoke time for cheap web design. Don't forget that @openmind will also charge extra if website design services are required - exactly the same strategy that I use.

For people wanting everything for next to free, it's not worth spending bespoke time on them because they will be very unprofitable to work with. It's better to provide them with a pre-made template (or get them to buy their own) and then integrate it with a system that provides a service - just like @openmind.

The installation of wordpress also takes one minute, the cost £0...
The price of design for word press can start from £250...))
There was nothing said about hosting and it's not correct to add it to the cost.

Yes, the cost of time for you to install WordPress may be next to nothing, but someone has to write the code in the first place in order for you to be able to install the code. This is exactly the reason why I disagree with open source - open source is good for developers to share code and allow others to change and add functionality (the real purpose), but people start to abuse this and value the software cost at £0, despite developers having to have years of training and experience to write good software.

This topic is about price of design. Please read all the topic to see that word press is just one of the examples. We also have our CMS. I also have master deegree (and 5 years of web development experience) and don't think our scripts are of low quality. I showed our works and think they are the best proof.

wtf? In english! I never said you was indian, iraqi or even mongolian, I said most web dev outsourcing goes to India. I had no way to know you were ukrainian, and I never said anything bad about you. I was with OpenMind as you didn't answer a pretty simple question.

If anyone questioned my work, my location etc then I will answer truthfully. Dodging questions makes people think you have something to hide.

I did - you will find that the following was the request made by the OP:

Would be interested to know what I can expect to pay for a 7 to 8 page website, css complaint with mixture of text and graphics. It will be for web hosting with outsourced web design as an add on.
What they are really asking for are the prices can they expect get help delivering websites to their customers who need them. The question states a 7 or 8 page website, but doesn't state that there wont be a requirement for extras relating to these pages like CMS, e-commerce or CRM.

Going back to the original discussion, £250 is a good price for a quality design and conversion to a HTML template, but that is all - no extra pages, no content writing, no photography and no website SEO. For anyone serious about a website, all of these are the basic requirements that will push your prices up. The point that people are making in this discussion is that you shouldn't undervalue yourself, and if you really do have 5 years experience, you should know that £250 is unrealistic to provide a quality solution - unless you are doing it to get the experience.

Web design is not about how much it costs inb regards of page numbers. It's about what the client needs. For examle I've seen so many business websites with a way over the top design for the service they provide and it just messes with the whole objective of the website. Especially in the case of overboard graphic design for a company that is not selling in a market that needs them.

Sorry, I don't know what is your knowledge of geography.

As to the work - I only compared our resumes. It's just my IMHO.

Yes I really have more than 5 years experience.

And please read what I wrote. This price is for installation of wordpress + integration of new design (with making new design). Surely, this does not include sending the site to catalogues, copywriting, hosting, pays to models for video... This includes only what you see in the post. I will remind you

  • my first post - design starts from £300 + £200 for our CMS and filling in of pages content (7-8 content pages, maybe 1 form)
  • my second post - I said that the cheap way was to use wordpress + making design, total amount for this work was £250

About SEO and other... sorry but this is absolutly another topik. Templates must be optimized, of course, but not more.
I don't see anything that could be missunderstood.... do you think different?

Good example of a professional design @horsey1 - just one thing I thought to mention is that the website shows some big padding above and below the Flash navigation. Otherwise it looks very good and is the type of website design worth investing in.

Now the picture becomes more clear. You charge £250 for a website, but charge extra to help with the content that goes in it. Obviously your idea of website design is completely different from the other web designers here - taking into account what you wouldn't provide that others would, your £250 website would become priced more in line with the standard price of between £500 - £700 once you add in the extras.

SEO and other considerations are all part of good web design - no point in creating your website without considering how the HTML and content will be optimised to be easily accessible by the search engines for search placements. Again, leaving this extra work out means that your clients websites are a lot less likely to be found by search engines and reducing the potential for the performance of their website.

As for content, sorry, but this should be considered as part of the website. Would you go to McDonnalds and buy a meal just for the packaging? Having a pretty website template is ok, but it wont do anything without good quality content to convert visitors to enquirers or buyers. Strategical design of content and supporting wording by complementary design and features is the only way to maximise potential for conversion. If you leave this to the client to insert themselves, they will do a poor job at it because they don't have the experience of knowledge of good web design - the reason why they hire you in the first place.

The experienced web designer will know that when someone asks for a 7/8 page website design, they are looking for the complete website that includes their content setup and on site SEO as a minimum - although most will not know the technical terms of what to ask for.
