I've just had an email from the company that handles my business waste advising my new monthly rate will be going up to over 20% more. I understand prices are going up across the board and increases are necessary but this seems excessively high ...
They are stating the below as reasons for the increase.

Has anyone else had any similar recently?

Thanks
Danny

Legislation and Supplier-Driven Increases:

Government-driven increases in landfill tax (up by 21%) and energy costs are contributing to higher waste treatment costs. Suppliers are passing these costs over to customers, and it will vary from supplier to supplier. Additionally, inflation and interest rates are creating an unstable marketplace.

Internal Factors:

Employer NI contributions and minimum wage increases, along with rising inflation and the cost of living, are also factors in the price adjustment.

We hope this clarifies the reasons behind the price increase and highlights the additional value and benefits you will receive. We are committed to providing you with the best possible service and appreciate your understanding and continued support.

1 - Get quotes from other companies
2 - call your current provider and say you do not accept these costs and negotiate something better
3 - If 2 doesn't work to your acceptance, fall back to 1!

Maybe they were too low before or have kept their prices the same over many years and now just can’t afford it anymore.

Getting quotes would be the best way to understand if your price is reasonable or not. As mentioned it could be this company does not frequently raise prices so had to go in big at 20% but won't raise for a few more years.

I've noticed some companies such as BT are now raising every year inflation + an extra (7%ish from memory).

That does sound like a big jump. It's always worth comparing quotes when you get a price increase like that, even if you’re happy with the service, it helps to know if the rise is in line with the market.

We help businesses check what other providers are offering and whether their current deal is still competitive. If you want to get a feel for what a fair price looks like, we can walk you through it and provide a quick quote. Happy to help if you need a second opinion.
