Voipfone - without plugging into a router

Use a soft phone or maybe a wifi handset?

    You can't plug a standard ethernet phone into your laptop but if your hot desk has an ethernet point (ie not WiFi) a phone like a snom can be plugged into it and then your laptop could be plugged into the phone - if you need to. (it behaves like a switch).

    But I suspect you only have WiFi? In that case, the best idea would be to use the free softphone with a standard headset - they only cost a few quid. The quality might not be great, but you'd only know by trying.

    Actually you may be able to do it using the old netbios method with windows and a cross over ethernet cable. A crossover cable will allow the 2 computers to connect to each other without a router. The netbios enabled in windows will allow for the voip to share the laptops internet connection. Never actually done it with a phone but in theory possible.
