VIDEO SEO -- traffic generation ?

H

HitchTalkTV

I would firmly suggest proper Video SEO as one of the many strong factors that can increase traffic. Videos around the www have become a lot more searchable if properly optimized compared to the millions text contents that everyone is trying to use for their businesses.

I suggest that people should try this out.
I would love to know what you guys think about this !

Cheers,
Yuko :)

It's been suggested for years that video was the key to all sorts of success. It turned out to be a damp squib. A few winners but Not enough to write home about.

In any case, I don't want more visitors, I want more customers.

Sigh....

Visitors =/= Customers

Video =/= SEO

You cannot SEO a video, all you can do it ensure the supporting content is optimised. The actual media is irrelevant.

haha!

insert generic *This is the best service ever for getting sales* by the way I also do this service :p

Yes video is good but with anything it has to be relevant to what you do and its not exactly if just "Video SEO" will get you 1,000's of views if the video is crud ;)

Video is like any piece of content on your website - if it's relevant and well produced, it can help to hold onto onto prospective customers for longer and help you to get your key messages across. My top tips would be:
- think about who the audience is, why they would be interested and what you want to achieve with the video
- keep it short (under 2 mins) with lots of variety; don't stick with one shot for too long
- don't neglect the sound; make sure the person speaking is loud enough and try to minimise background noise
- feature the video prominently on your site but let the viewer decide when and if they want to watch it - no auto starts!

This is true. The problem with a lot of people who try VSEO is that they make videos that aren't appealing or convincing for the audience at all.

Please explain what 'video seo' or VSEO actually is.

Looking at your site and there doesn't appear to be SEO of any kind.

Rubbish. The video itself is no different to any other media and has no SEO value. The SEO bit comes from the way it is used within a website. The content of the video is irrelevant, the only thing google is interested in is the title, description, supporting content and anchor text.

I have been using video for several years and can safely say that video is great for SEO and it is great for generating traffic to any url when done correctly.

A few reasons why -

1) video shows up in the serps now - high infact too ! so I am in total agreement with the subject post stating that video is good for seo

2) Google are now starting to script the content of the videos so eventually what you say will matter in terms of SEO

3) Getting traffic to your site from a video can easily be achieved by using appropriate calls to action, making sure links are intact in descriptions, using annotations to draw attention to the link and even better yet scanning the youtube insights tool to see what the attention span is like and drop in the right calls to action at the right place.

Another plus point is that in most niches the competition is far lower on youtube then in google - therefore making it easier to get visible results faster then traditional SEO

My final point it that now pipes are faster and the web is going to be heavily viewed from the living room in the next few years for those of us taking advantage of using video are way ahead of the massess.

Its easy quick and effective.

Totally disagree with #2

Google has experimented with extracting the content of some political speeches. and that's about it. with over 600 hours of new content being uploaded to youtube every day the chances of any of your video content being indexed is zero.

Still worth it though.
Is it really?

Most of the videos are junk and only a couple are displayed in the SERPS. People have been wittering on for yonks about how video is going to revolutionise everything but the all those prophecies about the end of SEO and all other marketing has just dies with a whimper.

Sure there have been some successes but they are far and few between.

Works a treat for me.
Not sure what you mean.

Your sig has the anchor text 'free website review' but there are no videos in the serps.

I'm always up for new ideas but I also like to see how it works in reality before commiting resources. So any chance of an example of how video has helped your SEO campaign?

Not sure we are arguing over nothing. you said:

I've just asked for an example of this. In particular where video has helped a commercial organisation with their ranking (which is how the thread started).

Video is great for tips in knitting or how to plaster your ceiling but there is little evidence that it is impacting on commercial search. In fact if you look are just about all competitive areas very, very few of them feature video in the SERPs.

Hello new to the forum, so here goes:

In your experience is it possible to rank videos highly in Google co uk.
U.S.A IM forums promote courses and rave about it's success in the U.S but I don't see much evidence of it here in UK.

Is there any particular reason why it should be less successful here.

- feature the video prominently on your site but let the viewer decide when and if they want to watch it - no auto starts!

i strongly agree that videos can only hold your prospects attention (and put them into action, read: visit your site and more) if it is relevant and well produced.
some people would skip written content if there is a video at the end.
audio visual presentation works wonders for recall and for capturing people's interests.
put your best efforts in making the video and it will reap benefits.
