Viable working from home businesses...

I see many websites stating that there many different ideas for jobs to be done whilst being at home, but what of them are worthwhile following through with or at least trying...

My girlfriend recently started to blog about her food creations and gardening explorations, which is all well and good as a hobby, but I doubt it will make any or enough money as a stay at home income, due to all the million of blogs out there. But as her job is ending soon and the fight to find jobs in the UK economic is tough, what at home prospects are there...

Has anyone got a business at home?
What businesses could be done from home?

It would be really interesting to read peoples thoughts on this topic !

How about your girlfriend emails lots of food/garden related websites with her current work and asks if she can write for them for £x per month !!

Im sure once she has a large portfolio of blogs she can just pass these out without having to write up each time and then spend time getting lots of clients on board to accept the pieces.

You have got plenty of unique business ideas that you can work on to get money- Go with something like green business ideas that are new and quite innovative. You can also work on other things such as home based content writing, online business of selling your products. So, you have plenty of options out there to work on and get started.

Any kind of computer related business, such as creative design or web development, has great flexibility - meaning you could work from home quite viably and make a decent income.

You would still need to find work, so you'd have to rely on your contacts to a certain extent.

There are a lot of Blogs out there. The point though is forget about it making money immediately. Instead get her to use her Blog to create momentum.

So she can use her Blog to create and establish some 'authority' about what she does...I'd split out the gardening and baking and do two routes. Or do a from garden to kitchen type approach....

Your Girlfriend (right now) can knock up a load of flyers. And get a simple info-first website done to go with her Blog (this is where you come in). Or using her Blog as a simple info site. To offer local 'expert' gardening etc.

She can then target your potential customers on your street, block, neighbourhood. Ones who possess spare cash to spend. Nice houses, neighbourhoods etc.

From there she can Leverage her authority by getting on local and national media etc to talk about and grant advice (surprisingly easy to do).

From their she can produce a number of Information Products. Starting with simple eBooks (small beer but great for 'Social Proof') to audio, audio-visual products, 'how to seminars' etc.

I'm sure with your webskills you can help her right?

There are hundreds of businesses you can start, run etc from home. Ranging from:

Work by the hour service businesses like mend it, fix it, move it...To full on Info Products businesses that go beyond the 'your time is your money' conundrum.

The most important thing is to realise that her burgeoning business is a mix of Marketing (Everything You Do To Get and Keep a Customer) and Operations (How To Organise Your Business for Maximum Efficiency and Cashflow).
