Using two rooms in home?

Hi all,

I am just wondering if this is allowed for expense purposes:

I use one room in my home as an office

however

I also use another room to store outfits etc, this is a very small room and could basically class as a walk in wardrobe.

I am just wondering if both rooms based on a percentage of area can be used as business use of home expenses or can I only claim for the office?

James, nothing wrong with asking questions (After all, that's what the forum is here for!) but I honestly believe you would be better off with an accountant. They can answer all of your questions for you, as well as advising on other areas which you might not even be aware of (and might not become aware of unless you ask a specific question). If you're a sole trader accountancy fees should be easily affordable, I would recommend getting one on board now to advise you from the off.

Whilst I agree in principle with Will's comments I say ask away my experience is that accountants don't always have the answer and will in the main err on the side of caution.

I suppose that depends on how good your accountant is! (James, as and when you decide to get one, there's a useful sticky on here about how to choose one).

You are right I haven't got an accountant as yet still deciding between either an online or landbased one. I just thought I would ask here as there are many accountants that use this forum which could give advice.

Don't apologies James, it's what the forum is here for. I was just suggesting that, although some start-ups see an accountant as an unnecessary expense, they can actually save you money in the long run and are so more than worth it, in my opinion, even from the start.
