Unwanted subscription issue...

I signed up for a FREE trial on a graphics website and followed the customary practice of adding card details and making a note to cancel prior to payment being taken at the end of the trial period if it wasn't up to scratch.

It appears that I hit a button that triggers immediate payment and subscribes me for a year. On querying with the provider I'm being told 'tough luck', no refunds.

Do I have any comeback?

So this is after the freetrial period? Or while you were trying to cancel it gave you the option and you accidently clicked immediate annual sub?

There usually a 14 day right to cancel for online sales otherwise potentially card carrier cancelling it too banks are usually pretty good with those things if you do it in a window where their protections apply

Yes, literary 20 minutes after I started the process. Apparently you are allocated a certain number of 'Coins' to trial the software and if you use too many you are automatically subscribed, or you hit a link to subscribe immediately.

so it auto signed up up to the annual plan so i believe you should still have the 14 day right to cancel and id request that strongly but also get in contact with your bank too as that method they have used sounds dodgy

In my name using a business credit card. I don't recall being asked for business details?

I've just checked and email confirmation for the free trial was received at 16.29. Confirmation for the subscription was received at..............16.29!

This can be tricky. If you subscribed as a consumer then you're protected and should get the money back (or if it's credit card, just never charge you for it), but if you subscribed as a business then you're pretty much stuch with whatever the terms dictate.

Not a solicitor, but this is my understanding.

Was it a credit card? Try a Section 75 claim (no one mention it is a business purchase...)

No, a debit card....

I've received notification that annual renewal has been removed so can only use the site for a year!

If its debit card then you should be able to do a chargeback with the bank

To clarify the process...........
1. Sign up for a 1 month trial
2. The trial will renew for $3.99 per month billed yearly, one month after your trial starts or upon using your last coin.
4. You can cancel at anytime.

Believing I was on the free trial it appears I used more than the allocated 'coins' when trialling a video generator, which automatically triggers the yearly payment.

Yes you can cancel but it makes no difference to the payment - so you won't find a cancel button that effects the current situation.

I think it's sharp practice by 'Creative Fabrica'.

Ye i would charge it back with the bank. Without knowing what platform was used and not knowing where the details of what the state here are listed for a consumer to see its very wishy washy and dodgy with the way theyve set it up likely looking to fleece people who just want to test out their app.
