UKBF Site Down a Lot?

UKBF has been mostly down since Friday tea time for me - and has only just come back online.

I know it is not a problem my end, ISP etc - I can surf the net just fine.

This is a problem I have noticed intermittently - but it seems to be getting worse and happening more often?

I've had the same problem. It was unavailable for much of yesterday and again this morning.

I have had no problems, I was on it nearly all day. (Was working also, no really I was)

It seems to be DNS. UKBF uses the 123reg nameservers and they have fallen over completely at the time of this post.

I've accessed this now by using IP address rather than DNS lookup.

Seems to be a random issue, I didn't have any problems whatsoever all day yesterday on wireless laptop but Tin had intermittent access throughout the day and evening.

If it's running Windows, your laptop would have been using a cached DNS lookup. From memory Windows caches for 24hrs or until reboot.

No problems here mate, but looking at the techy stuff what KM has written, my 'puters' never get switched off, if that makes a difference with the DNS thingy.

 

Yes, last night the DNS servers went down for around 45 minutes.

Hmmm, interesting, The Forum went down again for me about 15 minutes after starting this thread - and has only just come back???

I tried IE7, Firefox, reboot PC, reboot Router etc - and all other sites i visited today were fine.

Now RayB is confused (which does not take a lot - before anyone else mentions it)

I had the same problem last night and tried IE, Firefox and Opera and had no joy. Thought it was down for good.

P.S. I don't really like the look of the forum anymore.

We are currently aware of a problem regarding 123-reg nameservers which in turn is affecting the visibility of websites and services such as email. At present, we have engineers looking into this as a matter of urgency. Please be assured we are working to rectify this issue as a priority and hope to resume normal service as soon as possible. There goes me saying there has been nothing wrong, then boom, site down for 10 minutes. So yep, I have had the same problem as well.

Couldn't access the site all morning. This is the first time I've found it available today.

No problems at all here... The DNS is cached at a local and ISP level.

Been down for 4 hours today.

refund due on fee's paid = 0.5 pence

accountants fee's for calculations £200.00.

Just managed to login after around 8 hours of not being able too.

Why on earth are Sift using DNS management from a company such as 123-Reg for a site the size of UKBF!

I must admit, I wondered about the choice of DNS too. No tertiary DNS!

It's back for me now

I only had access for 2 x 20 minutes all day Saturday and the same on Friday evening - so down for about 24 hours in all

I had to work and watch TV instead

Guys, as kent points out, It's not UKBF, it's the company that manages their domain -123reg.co.uk.

Their name servers are fcuked and have taken many thousands of sites down with them. FSB was broken too.

Yep, I think we all understand the problem is with 123 now - no doubt UKBF will be changing domain management company sometime soon

I had same problem as everyone else and only got back on here late last night. I also noticed netmums was down too which is another very big forum!They use 123 also I believe

Yep, /me been unable to access UKBF this weekend either.
I have to take part of the blame for the domains being on 123REG, it was for ease of transferring the domains over to Sift when they took UKBF over from me. They were planning on moving them from 123REG "soon", but I guess it may move up the priority list now

Hi all,

Crikey, what a weekend, really sorry for the frustrations, and as Ozzy says, we will be moving UKBF from 123reg as a matter of urgency.

Half the problem in getting this sorted sooner is that I haven't yet got an internet connection at home (just moved), so I was a bit out of touch.
