I don't want to give Richard and the team a lot of work that they can do without but how about UKBF organising a national award ceremony to recognise the contributions that forum members make to UK industry?

There could be about 20 - 25 categories to cover all the areas:

eg.

Businessman of the Year
Businesswoman of the Year
Best Entrepreneur
Best Young Entrepreneur
Mentor of the Year
Best Overall Company of the Year
Most Innovative Company of the Year
Best New Company of the Year
Fastest-Growing Company of the Year
Business Turnaround of the Year
Employer of the Year
UKBF Member of the Year
Technology Innovator of the Year
Best New Product of the Year
Best New Service of the Year
Website of the Year
Company Brochure of the Year
Online Advertising Campaign of the Year
Communications Campaign of the Year
Marketing Campaign of the Year
etc....

Work out the costs involved to work out an entry price. Then you can enter as many catagories as you like.

'Black Tie' award ceremony to be held in September at a high profile location, including meal and drinks. All entrants are allowed to bring up to two guests with them for free, everyone else has to pay £40 per person to attend.

I am sure that we could get a sponsor to back the whole event, and have a guest speaker to host the show, get 10Yetis to handle the PR, national media coverage, good publicicty for all of us, etc.

:)

Just a thought.

That sounds like an awesome idea, a great networking event and a fantastic showcase for those people involved.

I think it would create real interest from the outside

I'm standing for the 'Best Pain in the Backside' catagory :-)

But you wouldn't win that, I can think of half a dozen others who would beat you

Hmmm ..... not if we're wearing the same dress lol.

It would have to be a big dress for us both to fit in

Maybe hedgehog should hire tents for more than one occupant.

I could wear my best 'track suit'

Well you will have to check on colour co-ordination with me and Philip first

Or you'll have to sit on another table as not to clash!

Not to be a party-pooper, but don't you think the regulars are more likely to win, regardless of whether a newbie has achieved more? For example, you mentioned 10 Yeti's handling the PR, when I could name off the top of my head 5 other PR companies on here, who just aren't as regular posters.

Are there not enough 'award' programs already. Ozzy linked to a few on his newsletter only recently. I've already responded to a couple, why don't y'all just look at those?

We need to go for the big cash prizes to make it worthwhile - UKBF can't come up with that

I don't care about any prize. I just want somewhere to go in a posh frock! And have a nice night out with interesting people to chat to.

Yep, I can vote for that.

I've already enjoyed having breakfast with Nigel last week, all I need now is the night before the morning after lol.

So is this just an idea, or is it actually going to happen, because I think it would be great.

Frocks and breakfast with Nigel?

I'm getting very curious now, come on, spill the beans.

I don't think you need big cash prizes to justify this.

Personally, the chance to network with other business people, the coverage we would get, the boost it would give my company profile, PR, etc makes the benefits of such an event self-evident.

As for the forum members being more inclined to win if they post more often, well isn't that the point? It would be a UKBF awards so it will tend to favour those who participate and demonstrate their company's worth through the forum.

You are not going to generate any interest or win any awards by not writing anything.

Especially with attendees flying in from Estonia, Latvia, Georgia, Portugal, the US, and elsewhere.

It's OK Steve, we can have video links like on the TV awards. :D

Something like.. Sadly Mr Stevey cannot be here tonight, but we caught up with him earlier...

Then we get a giant video film of you Steve! Or we could have a giant live interactive one, but you have to be careful you don't get tongue tied, as we may all get the urge to have a chuckle.

Wow, I think that this would be a great idea, not just for awards or prizes or whatever but as a chance to meet other business people, which I haven't really had the chance to do in my short life :D

Would be great fun, I'm all for it!

No, Jayne. I'm not telling YOU about our pyjamas breakfast
Did you not know that 'Crossguard' is a derivitive of 'cross dressing' and 'be on your guard'? I found out the hard way

Hotel Expert could help with the venue. Annethedonn could 'virtually' arrange all the admin issues and marketing. Tom could do a website to promote the event with Top Click getting it up the google search engine. Nigel could sort out he security fencing so we all dont get mobbed by fans. Jayne and Claire could arrange the paintings, Hayles the buffet, Alpha could keep a check on the running costs, MK Printing could do the menus, TimH the leaflets, Creacom could graphically design a mint billboard, Agri Hire could show up as a Denis Quaid lookalike to give it that 'star' quality and if no-one pays for their place I could kosh em after the event.

Great idea!

Nice, any photographers here who do airbrushing? Freecyber could do an article in his mag, I for one wouldn't want to look to 'rough around the edges' as Nigel stated once
