Hi.

I have a short, memorable domain that i will point at my main site (which is not so easy to remember). I would like to track when people arrive at my site via the short domain as i plan to use it one area only and would like to measure if its viable or not. Any suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks
Simon

Absolutely. And in your server logs.

You could also track at short domain itself if you wish. Instead of redirecting at the domain level / registrar, you can redirect via htaccess or simply via a refresh meta tag. Then you'll get traffic logs at short domain to give you data on those visitors. You'll know, for example, which ones entered directly and which ones were referred by other websites. If you prefer you could have GA on that short domain refresh page as well instead of bothering to dig into server logs for your stats.

If you do want to dig into server logs I've got some detailed explanations I've posted here on how to read those logs.

Many thanks for that @Clinton , much appreciated. Your article is most useful. I will probably do the lazy option of setting it up as a site within cpanel, installing GA and redirecting to the main site via htaccess but its good to know the logs are there if that plays up with it.
    Cheers
