Third Party Payment Providers! Shopify Payments Vs Worldpay, Opayo And Checkout.Com?!?

We're looking to move our checkout from Shopify payments to a third party payment provider, I'd love some feedback from anyone who has done this?

Shopify do not offer the ability to link two bank accounts to our account, we want one in GBP and another in Euros hence the move.

I've spoken with Worldpay, Opayo and Checkout.com this week, all are cheaper than Shopify even with .5% Shopify fee. Most offer the same payment options for the UK, whilst generally offering slightly better European payment options.

Has anyone any experience with above options, the good, bad and ugly please?

The biggest downside to moving is we might have to have customers go "offsite" to checkout, I'm concerned this will lower conversion.

Thanks in advance.

Stripe have the largest offering, but they are twice as expensive as the above mentioned. You can argue that the increased conversion will help sales I guess.

it's annoying as stripe has built Shopify payments but Shopify payments do not offer all the EU payment options that Stripe offer or two bank accounts option.

For big turnover, you can negotiate with them.

Also, make sure you compare all costs when doing a comparison, not just the topline rate.

Thanks for replies, slowly flushing out all the options. Stripe offer the best package, but are the most expensive. Opayo, Checkout and Worldpay seem reasonable and are circa 25-50% cheaper than Stripe. UI isn't as slick and they do not offer as many payment options.

So it's a balance of lower cost and less conversions vs higher cost and better conversions it would seem.

Hey Phil,

It's something we offer with either website design and e commerce hosting or just the payment gateway alone.

If you want a quote click below one of our Team will be able to run through this with you.

Any questions let me know.

Thanks

Hi Matthew, I can't seem to find a list of payment methods you accept? Also, do you offer functionality to add two bank accounts to your gateway, one for GBP payments and the other for Euros?
Hey Phil,

We accept all the standard mastercard, visa debit credit and commercial cards we also accept AMEX depending on the trade class.

In terms for the two bank account is this in regards to one account for charges and one account for settlements?

Thanks

Two banks to split sales, one for GBP to UK account and one for Euros to EU banks. This is really key for us as not to have to operate duplicate websites.

Do you offer any third party integrations such as Paypal, Klarna and any EU banks/payments methods? Giropay, iDeal etc?

Thanks

Hey Phil,

Sorry for the confusion on my end, Yes we offer two split bank accounts option for Euros and one for GBP so that's fine.

3rd party integrations we don't offer that but our gateway will work along side these so they would be an additional payment method

so upon checkout you could choose which method you would like to use if that makes sense?

Thanks

For many, integration is key. I had a client with a business that took you off site to make the payment. When we switched to an integrated payment system abandonment dropped by over half. His sales more than doubled. There was an extra cost but as he was making so much more it didn’t matter.

Also worth noting that people using phones are far less tolerant of external payment systems.

Fisicx and Ozzy, yes integrations with 3rd party payment providers. This is really key and how it operates. Customers want a great user experience and anything that is jarring might harm sales.

That said, from a business perspective I also want a great integration, no hassle, quick install, no frequent downtime or updates. One thing that has struck me thus far is how difficult all the main players make it to sample checkout experience. I.e, I've had difficulty with Worldpay and Sagepay (now Opayo), Checkout have been really helpful but couldn't get there demo working on our test website. Hardly inspiring stuff when moving to a new payment provider.

This makes me think I should stick with Shopify Payments, but then we'd have to duplicate websites (they only allow us to link one bank account to account), or maybe go for Stripe who have the best selection of payment providers... but are very expensive.

Matt - sounds like we'd have to integrate third party payment methods separately somehow, which would involve dev work. I'm very hesitant to go down this route as it's just something else that may go wrong over time and whilst we might be able to include the likes of Klarna and PP, I doubt we could add some of the European payment providers which are really key to have for our European customers. This is where the likes of Shopify and Stripe come into their own as it's a pretty painless process to integrate.
