Stopping Instagram follows?

First off let me say, I know we can block followers but is it possible to stop them following us in the first place?

We serve sports clubs with various services, one of which IS NOT the supply of equipment, yet we are having to remove multiple 'follows' from manufacturers, primarily based in Sialkot, Pakistan, who contribute nothing to our page other than to 'like' just about every picture we put up!

Is your issue that people are following your page? Robots and spam followers tend to cause a problem, but actual accounts won't pose an issue to your engagement, or how the algorithm affects you if that's what you're worried about.

It is not possible to control who can follow you on Instagram.
If this function would exist- I could bet, everyone would set "top tier countries only". Unless you are local business. then, just your specific area...

This is good one,- if no one will be able to follow you, even targeted audience.,then what's the point to have IG account at all?

The same reason those asking legal questions don't post on specialist legal forums, those asking commercial property questions don't post on specialist property forums etc.,

Working on the assumption that this forum would die if people didn't start threads, somebody who's last contribution in this respect was way back in 2014, who suggests the best place for answers is to look elsewhere should be working for 'the other side'

PS: Albeit many years ago, guess who started a thread asking how to follow more people on Twitter.

Because the new followers are all connected - by way of being in the same industry, and usually from the same area, country it's almost as if they are sharing contacts. 20 more followers removed this weekend.

..as per my opening post:

In addition, these 'manufacturers', the overwhelming majority of whom are nothing more than agents, target everybody individually via What's App, Facebook, telephone if they can. Described as relentless, some folk claim to have been contacted 20-30 times a day. We've removed a dozen follows in the past 3 days, all of them coming from the same country.

The WhatsApp spam is certainly annoying, but having genuine followers on your account is never a bad thing. Yes, it would be great to attract only key customers/clients to your followers, but in social media, numbers are key to holding influence. I wouldn't go crazy removing several dozen followers, and I certainly wouldn't make a corporate account private - if you're getting hassle, you can 'mute' these accounts to stop receiving updates/messages. Deleting unwanted comments is also an option that wouldn't necessarily harm your social reach.
