Several users on one Dropbox Pro account?

We are a small web agency.

We don't need 1TB each for dropbox so would like to share a single Dropbox Pro account.

Anyone here tried that before?


It would mean we have 1x £8/mo bill, and a single 1TB of cloud space, and several people logged in and accessing it.

I believe you need the business account supporting teams rather than the individual pro account. You could in theory `front` a individual account with other software, just using it for backend storage, but then you lose a lot of the sync and other functionality.

Yes, don't go there, we used to do that

It doesn't sync well between machines at all.

Thanks, so you are saying individual dropbox accounts are good, but sharing 1 login/account doesn't work well?

Yep... it may work better with smaller amount of files but we were moving tens of thousands around on a regular basis and it simply couldn't keep up with the syncing even on a fibre connection

A self/cloud-hosted owncloud.org (open source / free) might also be an option, though I'm not sure how it'll handle sync on the number of small files (especially if doing encryption) and it'll definitely not be as cheap as dropbox.
