Hi everyone, hope your well.

Basically, I need to improve my SEO but I cannot afford it at the moment, there is a certain 3 words that I want to be number 1 for, it shouldnt be too hard and its a small area I am targeting e.g 'leaflet design (my town)'.
The reason I am not saying is because this thread will probably be ranked number 1.

What tips can you give me, or could anybody look at my site and then give me some advice, it would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks
Oliver

What a joke.....

QUOTE: never send unsolicited Private Messages (PM) – you must always gain the member's permission before sending a PM, unless you have a specific need to contact a member quickly or discreetly

The content of my message I wanted to be discreet and was not an "open invitation" as such.

So basically the rule above quoted from this site is incorrect, you cannot send a discreet message to another forum member if you have a specific need?

No PM - Unless you ask openly and he accepts

Yes I get the NO PM bit.....but why have a clause within your T&C's that states

Quote:"unless you have a specific need to contact a member quickly or discreetly".

There is no mention about having first received the member's permission?

Strange place this forum sometimes......

Just to clarify this business of when you can and can't send a Pm. You can send PM's to absolutely anyone on the forum, however be mindful that if you breach any of the normal forum rules whiule doing so, then the person you have Pm'ed can report that as spam, and the mods/admins will look at it.

So if you send a PM that says 'I can help you rank higher, I have looked at your site send me a telephone number we can chat etc, then be mindful that the receiving member can report that and an infraction issued for self promotion.

There are times when a Pm is the only logical way, but the main forum rules still apply, and the most common rule breach via Pm is SELF PROMOTING !

Hopefully that has cleared things up a touch.

@OldWeshGuy

Whilst your reply does make some sense, can I ask why I have already taken 1 strike even though I have not been reported for Spam? (Unless you have seen something differently???)

We don't discuss moderating on the open forum, however I have looked and there are no infractions/strikes on your account, so you appear to be confused.

If you wish to persue this line, then please Pm me :)

Cheers

If you are not willing to pay, then you will have to invest your own personal time in learning SEO. Trust me, that does take a little time.

On the subject of Google SEO guidelines. By all means read them - but take everything Google says with a pinch of salt. In my opinion, Google don't give a damn about any of us whether we are rule followers or not (unless you are a brand that is - in which case you can do no wrong!)

I treat the guidelines as a rule book, and in my book rules are there to be bent, stretched, ignored as required. Obviously you need to calculate the element or risk if you are prepared to bend / break rules.

ahh ok - I wondered where it had gone - But i thought it was advice that he was looking for.

General advice is fine, that is to say generic advise about SEO/internet marketing, but specific advice provided after looking at his website is a site review and has to go into the site review area, which free members don't have access to as it is a paid members only area.

True ! Fact is following Google's guildelines will place you right where they want you.

That's behind the brands who are behind adverts who are right behind the brand adverts who are behind Google's own adverts :)

But if you think Google are bad then don't even consider SEO for Bing. They are still thinking about one of my clients sites which has 60,000 indexed in Google, with 300 backlinks yet Bing reports Nil indexed and 26,000 backlinks. It's with the developers :)

I think first of all you have to work on your "On Page" optimization part. Because 80% of website promotion depends on strong "On Page" optimization.

Not sure its that simple! If you are going after a non competitive / longtail term then sure max out with on page. That and a few links will probably rank you.

If its a competitive term, then I'm pretty sure onpage is far much less significant in the grand scheme of things. I'm not saying ignore it, but there is a lot more to consider (ie backlinks, domain age, etc etc)
