We have seen some massive changes as of late, but today possibly the biggest change for a long time, take a look at your rankings today and see if they have been affected.

Also take a look at some of these results

"make money online"

"Bicycle wheels"

Ok, But still, even if you do want to make money online or not, you cant argue that in google.com the website that ranks number 1 for "make money online" is a good results, its a blogspot with no content on at all!

Ah, right. That's strange.

I never looked at the results for that term because I would have no idea of who should be near the top of the results for something like that.

Hi Red,

It wasnt earlier, the website I mentioned is now funny enough gone.

Number one on Google.com is still a website hosted on blogspot with NO content on it :)

It hasn't gone for me anyway.

And I'm seeing the same as you all hell is breaking out state side! This algo change was supposed to hit here as well, not sure on the dely though.

So GOogle are trying to adjust the algo to benefit those who create great sites with good content. Seems sensible to me. I'd rather have these sites at the top of the SERPS rather than those who got there because they paid someone to build links.

People seems to forget that Google is a FREE service. They don't charge you for inclusion in their index so maybe people ought to stop complaining that their site has gone missing.

'We want people doing white hat search engine optimization (or even no search engine optimization at all) to be free to focus on creating amazing, compelling web sites. As always, we’ll keep our ears open for feedback on ways to iterate and improve our ranking algorithms toward that goal' Posted by Matt Cutts, Distinguished Engineer

It's a nice idea, but I can't see how that could work algorithmically.

If there's a search with 20m possible pages, google will still have to do things to order those pages so they have a top 10. They're certainly not going to be reviewing - and ordering - them all manually.

So far it seems like anchor text diversity is a big part in this update. There are some truely shocking sites ranking for some keywords now, I doubt it's much to do with quality content.

Lord only knows what they were trying to do! If it's about quality then it has failed miserably in some cases.

It will be tweaked again it always is following a major update. Having said that they are always tweaking but one is needed sooner rather than later for .com :)

How do I do that? It keeps taking me back to google.co.uk.

Steve

PS As I don't know anything about buying bikes in the States, I probably wouldn't be qualified to comment on their SERPS. Halfords and Evans are big retailers here, so the UK results seem sensible enough.

There is an option in the Footer Steve to change to Google.com - a little tedious sometimes as it won't change back.

Why is everybody moaning. Google does what Google does.

I've been searching for some help with PHP today and I'm seeing great results. I wanted to know the location of an HSBC branch and the results were perfect. I've just searched to get some live flight info and the top results was the one I wanted. My missus wanted a recipe for lemon drizzle cake and the results gave a good choice.

All seems perfectly normal to me.

BTW: checking across a range of sites and everything is ranking the same place it has been for the last umpteen years.

LOL one of my sites lol. Too funny. It's a - EMD (eg key-word.com), 1000 exact searches, the leads are worth ok money. ZERO content. Just XXX.com is under construction.

Ranks 8th. Competitors must be quite angry lol.

Because they don't want Google to do what Google does.

Basically, they don't want Google to do what it's always done: evolve.

I've done some info searches, and the results seem better than last week.

Things like "nyg schedule 2012".

Last week the results were far less relevant (lots to do with the Superbowl, which was technically the 2011 season).

Today the top 9 are about as good a selection of results one could ask for.

Ranks #1 here if that's the right one I seeing but it's a dropped domain right?

I am seeing domain landing pages rank too, something they were supposed to have stopped :| Silly Google
