SEO assistance - Page Speed help on Wordpress - hiring

Hi guys and dolls

I'm looking for someone to help with page speed timings on a client's website, my usual developer is in Thailand not back until 20th May so I'm seeking external help as a one-off project at this point.

Load speed: Site is slow to load, in Google Analytics there are a few pages with a high load time, notably the home page and also when I login to the backend. Both Speed Booster Pack and Smush is installed (and out of date) I was wondering if the page load times would improve just by updating the plugins and WP version?

Cache issues: Every time I publish a new blog post the site takes 4-5 days to render and display live. I've cleared the cache (WP Fastest Cache and W3 Total Cache is installed - would this cause conflict?) previously in the dashboard but it doesn't have any effect. For example, I published a blog post last Monday and it needed some tweaks for legal purposes which I updated. The original content took a few days to render and showed the original copy. You can only see the updated version when logged in to the backend - again, maybe this would be resolved by updating everything?

disable both cache plugins and see if that helps. I'm not up to speed on wp-cache plugins anymore but they are often file based and can cause a lot of issues without actually making the site any faster. In other words, you are probably better off without them.

It is likely they have set the cache to rebuild every few days or so which is why you are not seeing the new pages. But, even so, things have moved on and there are better ways to cache a wordpress site these days.

The issue with the page load could be any number of factors but, likely, it's javascript related such as random plugins loading huge scripts on every page?

Also, have a look in the database wp_options is probably filled up with all manner of guff too.

Thank you for the comprehensive reply, although I'm not touching the site at all, I'm looking for a developer to hire to do this for me / the client. My niche is mainly SEO not development.

Website has not been touched for almost 2 years I think around November 2017 so there are 18 out of date plugins and WordPress 5.1.1 needs to be installed, plus a backup created before all this starts.

Have you runed any reports of the clients site on service like GTMetrix or something like that ? But you can already update all of this and before that make a backup or ask hosting to do so. That way maybe in some cases it will fix itself. Don't delete any plugins so, it may crash the site totally.

Install WP Super Cache or WP Rocket, otpimize the size of the loading images, videos, etc. It will load at least 5 times faster after that. Some other things yuo can do with a Wodpress professional.
