I agree a part of what you said. Yes a high quality and great site will always work. But that doesn't mean you can't start building high quality links. It takes more than great content to get your site ranked. I do agree that you should go for the long term :)

For most SME's, it does NOT take more than a great site with great content to rank well.

I've ranked some moderately competitive terms (several thousand on one site recently) with content alone (just social mentions whenever a post goes up), with no real link building campaign at all. By ranked, I mean top 5, top 10 terms.

So, NO, you do not need backlinks for mild competition, most local competition, scenarios.

You should build non-organic traffic streams though, in addition to organic pursuits, because this protects your interests. In fact, sites that have multiple traffic streams of substance often outperform sites organically that only have organic traffic as their main stream.

Since we started our email campaigns this past year, started publishing on site regularly and syndicating with social mentions, our traffic is now running 198% above a year ago at the same time. I've not done much of the basic organic optimisations, because time is being allocated on building user-centric content more than search-bot-centric content. It's meant our email nurturing campaigns see low unsubscribe rates and pretty decent open/CTR's.

If you are interested in high quality backlinks go for famous sites like Yell or Manta
What?

That has got to be the winner of today's most wrong bit of advice post.

If you create great content then the backlinks will come free and will in most cases be natural with no risks from algo tweaks.
Doesn't happen like this anymore. If you want links you have to go out and either pay for them or work hard to earn them.

Sorry but you are doing it wrong if you cannot put together a content strategy that pulls in good links. I used it many times and garnered some amazing links plus loads of social signals. Buying links for success is a method people use who are not capable of doing it the creative way.

Although if you are an affiliate happy to burn domains then of course you will buy links and use PBN's.

Seeing your profile I can see how the content you publish can generate links. But for most people they aren't in an industry (or have the talent) which engenders a readership than would link to that content from places that add value.

That is a really excellent point, before I retired from the main industry we tried to get agencies to embrace 'interactivity' with content but as you said it stills beyond the majority of businesses to benefit from this type of creativity.

It doesn't need to be overly expensive, we created written content and then used simple development to bring it to life. One really effective approach - we put together athlete bios for our sports nutrition website and embedded YouTube content to show lifting or training techniques.

With social signals activated and a small amount of social promotion we had fantastic results.

Search engines will consider the quality of backlinks when indexing and ranking a website. If a website is very popular, is highly relevant to the keyword that is being searched and is generally considered to be reliable and trustworthy, then links provided by that site will be viewed positively by visitors and search engines.

Links added to pages which are irrelevant to your website content will be viewed as spam by search engines and penalised in the rankings.

Actually I don't entirely agree, whilst it is good to get 'on topic' backlinks there are many resources that are 'general' in topic that will be of huge benefit. For example a link from trusted news media like Huffington would be very beneficial.

Not anymore. Google considers relevance to be just as important as authority and trust. So a random link from Huff without content or relevance will have little value. That being said, the chances are a link from Huff will be very relevant (they have to be or the authority huff has will be diminished).

Rather than buying the link go for blog posting, forum, listing and so on. As it will give you long term benefits.
No, don't do this.

Maybe I missed something, I read that you think any link from an authoritive site is worth having - if that is the case I disagree. The link has to have relevance for Google to give it some value.

I never said any link - You are agreeing that a link from The Huff can be very beneficial, The Huff is a general resource like many that are on the internet. The page would be on topic and the link contextual and probably branded. Therefore I am right in what I said, this would be a beneficial link.

What's even better is it will give you the PR ranking of websites which is very powerful for any winning SEO campaign.
Except of course, PR went out the window last year so it won't help win anything

Hello, everyone,

I am doing SEO for the site of app development company. Please share your opinions - How can I get proper backlinks? Is it better to buy backlinks or use other tools like blog posting, forums, listing, catalogs and so on? Do you know good platform for backlinks buying? And what is the best way/service for backlinks and sites analyzing?

Thank you!
Concentrate the websites related to your application. So many directory and bookmarking websites are available in internet. Please google it. And also focus on content marketing and social media activities.

Do not buy backlinks, because it will lower your site's rating.
Not necessarily. You can buy some great links that generate quality traffic. As long as you don't attempt to use these links to improve your ranking buying links is fine.
